Yesterday, toddler grandson came over. He'd been sick but his fever was down so we took him for an overnight. Shoulda known better. He was cough-city and after nap I checked his temp. 101.1 Called DS to come get him - by the time he arrived temp was at 102.1. Poor little guy...

Greatly hoping DH & I don't come down with this 🤞🙏

Cyber Monday sales are being advertised - a good thing because DH needs a new desktop and I need a new laptop. Was hoping Windows 12 would have been released by now, but no such luck. It bugs me to buy stale technology.

DGD just brought me a Starbucks latte and a cranberry bar. Yum!

Has anybody else noticed that so far this season there haven't been complaints about the Starbucks Christmas cups?
Our town used to be "single zip code, no Starbucks'. Now it is "single zipcode, finally a traffic jam at Starbucks". I had to look the cups up. Designers ran out of ideas?

taking about coats. Canada goose coats are all the rage here among the young... and because they're so expensive, people are literally being mugged for their coats..seriously...
It happens in Canada too. You can only hope the thief ends up with one of the Chinese knockoffs.

My DD has one and unless the weather is incredibly cold, she finds it too hot. Overall, she prefers her DD‘s puffer coat. There definitely are lots of days here to wear one.

For many years, I lived in the snow country and was an avid snow skier, even crushing my 5th vertebra in a ski accident.
But at my age, I am glad living in a warmer climate where I can go walking year-round without slipping on ice.
And if I still get an itching for snow, then I can drive in winter one hour up into the local mountains to get cold feet.
After all, SoCal is a place where you can snow skiing in the morning; and after driving two+ hours, go ocean surfing in the afternoon.

I just saw this Monarch Butterfly a minute ago in our garden; and while we have plenty of Hummingbirds, the picture is older.

PS, we have a number of butterfly caterpillars on our plants. This one may have just hatched because when I saw it first, it barely
moved. But now half an hour later, it is moving its wings briskly, obviously practicing to fly. Its wings are not yet completely
unfolded. That's the reason why I was able to pick it up and place it into a butterfly cage for my 5 y/o grandson to admire.

PPS, a few years ago, my wife and I drove on Freeway 101 five hours north to Pismo Beach where in winter what seems to be a million
Monarch Butterflies gather in huge Eucalyptus trees; see Butterfly Grove. Ouch! I just read that we need a permit to keep it caged. Well,
as soon as my grandson has seen the Monarch, I let it fly off. In the meantime, it will have unfolded its wings and be able to fly properly.

Dio and I are both fine now. I found out that it wasn't the food at Thanksgiving that made us sick. It was some old iced tea that I had in the refrigerator! It's gone now, and we both felt well enough to go to the rink yesterday. I had had a great time skating!

I knew that one of my skating friends (the author) wouldn't be there.....her Dad died after they all had their Thanksgiving dinner together! So sad and tragic!!!! Yet this woman is such a positive soul....she has been posting on FB how fortunate she was to be able to spend time with him before he left!!! She has also been posting pictures and memories of the good times they had through her life! This woman has a teenaged autistic son, and yet, no matter what happens, she is always full of positive energy!

I think I might get around to writing out some Christmas cards today.

You're right - noro virus ripped through their house about 1-1/2 weeks ago. He was the last to get it. Baby brother brought it home from daycare. Mom, Dad and big bro fell one after another, like dominoes.

First Advent sunrise................................................................................From my wife's garden

First Advent, first candle lit. Behind is an Advent Calendar with the first door open.
When the children are at home, then we sit around the table, sing Christmas songs, and snacking a fruit cake.

Santa's workshop is behind the garage door.............................Santa is coming

When my daughter was in the first grade, I played Santa at her school. I thought I had a really good Santa's costume,
but she still embarrassed me screaming, "it's my daddy."

And when we decorated the Christmas Tree after Thanksgiving, our children slept the first few nights under the tree.

Good morning and happy Cyber Monday. I probably won't buy anything.

It's cold again (it happens every year about this time). If I'd had good sense, I'd have cleaned up the garden yesterday like I said I would if it got warm enough. It got warm enough, and I didn't do it. Today is supposed to be cooler than yesterday. Sigh. We'll see if I can light a fire under my como se llama and get 'er done today.

Other than the garden, which may or may not get done, it's too early to know what's on the agenda.

Another dull day...8 deg...

No plans for today but i;m dreading tomorrow because 2 weeks ago the dentist gave me a temp filling , and said if the tooth didn't settle , it would have to be taken out... well it hasn't settled, in fact it's been more painful than before.. so it looks like I'm going to have it taken out tomorrow...dreading it.

My lawyer wanted a meeting tomorrow with me, i told her I won't be able to talk.. so she's rescheduled for Wednesday morning.. 😣

I've slept so well the last three days in this cold weather!
I have my new soft warm throw to help.
I cleaned the last two days. No company coming but I decided to deep clean for us. I'll get some Christmas decor down and we'll enjoy the season.
This is the least stressed holiday season in a while. No people staying at our house! They were always welcomed and enjoyed but it was a lot of prep, busyness, then clean up.
So, we're enjoying our house to ourselves. 🎄

On my early walk at 6:45 temp was 28 refreshing, no wind or snow as I strolled around the building before breakfast The sun is out ,forecast here in city is p.sunny temps in low 30's
I have no real plans today except some paperwork I need to do .I'll,probably take another walk mid morning and one on the afternoon
I made my dinner reservation today for 5:45pm, the dining room staff is swamped by too many reservations at 5:30.The assistant director in dining room asks our reservations be made at 5:15,5:45 or 6. I have no idea who I'll be sitting with at dinner

I always give my kids $$ for Christmas. DS just called to tell me that their fridge died during the night...it must have been hours and hours ago because everything in the freezer is thawed and has to be thrown out. Landlord said they could "use" the one in "Unit 4" in another building. What? They went to Home Depot before work and bought their own to be delivered Wednesday. In the meantime, they packed everything salvageable from the fridge into two coolers along with two sacks of ice.

Sooo...their Christmas gift this year is a new fridge. Not expensive as fridges go, but equal to what I'd have given them in cash.

Their landlord is tighter than bark on a tree. He replaced the fridge last year with the one that died last night...the replacement is/was avocado green, which gives you an idea how old it is/was.

When their kitchen stove died two years ago, landlord replaced it with one that was very old with spotty performance at best. One day DS/DSIL were out walking and a block down there was a duplex being remodeled right down to the studs, and a nearly-new stove was on the curb with a "free" sign. DS stood watch while DSIL ran home, got the car (hatchback, thank heaven!) and they loaded it up and took it home.

They say that when they move someday, the stove is going to be given away, and they'll take the fridge for an extra one. Take that, tightwad landlord! LOL

Cold and sunny.
SO got a Peppermintpatty Bun stuffed with homemade chorizo, egg and cheese. Then he trotted off to his office with IPad, coffee, sliced fruit and water. He does need a little trolly!
Laundry is done, hair is washed and dry (a chore in winter), stove needs a good scrubbing then it is time for the annual dread - Christmas cards.
With the fire place fiasko we did not get to bringing tree and decorations down from the attic.

An update, I didn't do any paperwork today instead I called my friend, Don who lives at the apt bldg where I used to live. I asked if I came over would he let me in since I no longer have any keys . I wanted to drop off last wk's NYT/magazines to my friend Mary He told me to knock on his window by back door,he let me in
It was a beautiful but cold morning took me 15 min to get there. After I dropped the bag by Mary's door I visited him for about 20 min It felt strange to be back but in a good way

Been in pain all day. Left side, either in front of or behind lowest part of ribcage, front. Feel gassy, too. Could this pain be related? Really suffering. Just now thought to wear back brace. Helps the front some. Shaking too. Feel miserable.

It took me a while, and a lot of guilt, but I have cut waaaay down on Christmas cards.
