How is your hearing?

I saw the doctor today and told him that I was having problems hearing.
He asked me if I could describe the symptoms.
I said “ Sure Marge has blue hair and Homer is a fat guy.”

I made an appointment but ended up cancelling it.
I heard through the grapevine that he didn't have a sound education.

A man was concerned that his wife was losing his hearing so he spoke to his doctor about it. The doctor suggested standing 60 feet away and asking her a question in a normal speaking volume. If that didn't work, try 50 feet. If she still couldn't hear him, stand 40 feet and so on.

So he went home and tried it. He asked, "What's for dinner?" at 60 feet, 50 feet, 40 feet, 30 feet with no results. Finally, he walked up five feet away from her and asked loudly, "What's for dinner?"

"GOLDAMMIT, FRED, FOR THE FIFTH TIME, IT'S CHICKEN!!!"

Ha! Click bait. I was ready to engage in a serious discussion. Sorry, I don't have any good comebacks like the rest of you, but they are good comebacks I have to admit.

Just had mine tested and have to cough up almost $3000 for same aids I got last time which were under $2000 and that is after the govt. grant of $1000....duh!

Reasonably functional except tinnitus damaged multiple times from small club venue music concert speakers as a twentysomething. Most annoying when in quiet places.

Who would have thought that we would find this much humor about our hearing problems? I really think a good laugh is good for you. I know it is for me!

My hearing loss is when I'm with several people and I can't zero in on one person's voice. Sitting around a table at a restaurant, I just spend a lot of time, like Cali said, nodding and smiling. I never know what I've just agreed with...LOL.

A radio playing in a car will give me problems,too, in hearing voices.

I don't have a problem hearing. People just don't speak slowly and loudly enough.

Sometimes the TV sound muffled and sometimes it's fine, but my ears always feel full. I tried irrigating with a syringe, but that didn't help. Neither did the Valsalva maneuver (gently try to blow air out the nose while holding it shut).

At the doctor's today, I hardly understood a word the technician said especially when she was facing away - she sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher. I didn't have any trouble when the doctor spoke. Go figure.

I took an online hearing test a few weeks ago, I can't hear anything in the high frequency range but I can hear the fire station alarm when it sounds 2 miles away.

I've been tempted to schedule an appt with an audiologist, but they would likely recommend hearing aids. I don't think that's a covered expense with traditional Medicare. My only hope is that it would be something that could be remedied by other means (medicine, minor surgery).

My audiologist told me that children's and women's voices are harder to hear, so there's that. Also, if the technician is a younger person, they have a difficult to understand cadence to their speech patterns.

I was watching a nature show on TV this morning. I understood every word David Attenborough said. Then comes a commercial and it's "Whun hwuh waa huh".

When my hearing is bad, I use ear drops for wax buildup and it clears my ears. I also had the doctor clean them out and that worked.

@debodun , right this moment I'm watching a David Attenborough program about the animals in Asia's deserts. I can understand David clearly, despite his British accent.
