How is your pet's happiness?

When I was growing up, we had a cat. It was lucky it had a food dish. But, today, a cat not only has to have dishes with its name engraved on it, but lots of toys, some even battery operated, and a carpeted tower with multiple snoozing platforms. Of course, we spend a small fortune on kitty litter- mega tons of it. I'm not a dog person, but my friends treat their mutts the same as my cats. When did we decide we had to attend to our pet's mental needs. I don't think my grandparents were evil, animal haters, but I can't picture them having a huge cat tower in their living room. They loved their pets.

We love our Dogs... my DD's dogs are basically her Fur children... she tends to their every need, as she would a child.. they get birthday cakes.. they have warm winter coats.. they're taken to the dentist and the vet, to have check-ups every other month.. they have pedicures.. she grooms them herself .. and she has a professional grooming table.. they get food which is specially bought made to her recipe by a large company.. which contain only quality ingredients.. they're the sweetest natured dogs into the bargain..

When I was a kid , we had dogs.. they got fed and walked, and that was about the extent of it..

My sister brought my cat one of those carpet-covered towers. I have 1 cat. The cat-tower's got 5 scratch-posts, 4 flat surfaces and 2 cubby-huts. Pixel tried them all out, but he only likes one of the scratch-posts. The stupid thing comes up to my chin and takes up as much floor space as a chair. I'd rather have a chair. That's something he'd use.

These are our new kitty`s toys.Cost us a fortune.....the drinking water wrapper is actually her favorite-she spends hours inside that thing. It`s open a bit on the bottom so she runs around the room and it looks as if the package is moving on it`s own lol.
But the box with the holes in the sides is fun too-she reaches out of them to grab your leg when you walk by lol.

Actually not our kitten though.Got her for our granddaughter in California for her 17th birthday. Will be taking her there next week😭We are secretly hoping that this isn`t the kitten she had in mind when she said she wanted one-we are so in love with her.And she has developed an attachment to Mr.Robinson that amazes me. So if we have to bring her back to Idaho, that will be fine with us lol.

Pets mean a lot to some people. They can actually be life savers.

My tabby loves to go all over the bookcase, including the very top. If I ever get out of this apartment and have room, I will certainly get her a cat tower. As it is, they have toys I bought and made. They have some ball tracks and 3 cardboard scratchers. All their dishes, like mine, are from the thrift store.

It's their home to and my bed is their bed. When it's cold, they love the cuddle beds I made them.

Cats and dogs .. have had both, and you notice their feelings more as you (and they) age.
It's just my dog and me now, so I pay more attention to what is going on with him .... and one thing I've noticed is that he loves cat food in his old age. Vet sez okay in small amts ... It's a lot of protein and fat.
A little Fancy Feast seafood, and a bowl of milk - and soon he'll be meowing.:)

Over the years, I think when you have a large family, and many pets, a lot of their quirks go unnoticed.

I have a well-loved and tended to cat, female calico 16 years old.
I dote on my little furry one. She is a cuddler. The money spent over
her years for this or that, including yearly exams and etc. also her
medicine and other things have been worth it, that is for sure ;)

How Is Your Pet's Happiness?

100% happy and healthy. May look like I'm spoiling them but no. I'm all about staying clear of Vet visits.
Took me awhile to narrow down just what they needed...done. No rice...posted that once before but...no.

No Vet Visits: except rabies and bordetella shots (no flea/heartworm because they had a bad reaction to shots (seizure) and there aren't any mosquitoes or ticks near ocean breeze).

Fleas: Occasionally they'll pick up a flea or two from other dogs but I'm watching and take a q-tip dipped in diluted dawn and just touch the flea with it...boom DOA. I also bathe them regularly, but if I see flea dirt they get a 1 minute dip in highly diluted dawn...very watery...rinse thoroughly, then doggy Oat shampoo (no-tears facial soap I get at Trader Joe's). Again, rinse thoroughly.

Dental chews: from Costco (they won't touch other brands). They're obsessed with them.
They hoard and hide them in covers and edges of dog beds all day sometimes fake-growling to tease each other for fun.

Food: Quinoa, fresh frozen Spinach cooked and blended in blender with some low sodium beef broth (then freeze half of it for later).
Then I add 80%/20% Ground Beef (cooked in frying pan with just enough water to keep it from sticking...not overcooked, includes juice) and/or fresh baked Chicken, and/or some of my salmon shared...on rare occasions a tiny amount of low-sodium canned tuna in water.
and I often add baked sweet potato smooshed up in the quinoa/spinach mixture.

Exercise...lots of walks.
Sometimes on the beach, sometimes Ocean Dr.
One dog requires toy-frisbee time.

I swear I take better care of them than myself at times. I literally could eat their food if I wanted to.

I'm totally with you on only getting those two shots .... everything else they try to push causes terrible allergic reactions in my dog.
And the Vet admitted that older dogs don't need all that 'protection' anymore, like a young dog.

My pet as you all know is a rabbit, but I have had many other types of pets through out the years. Now it is just Rabbit and me and he is my last pet. I think he is pretty happy. Though he does not play with toys he likes hiding spots (to sleep in) and alleys around my furniture. I have created many. In the old days people kept pet rabbits outside in a hutch. Not so much these days. They are treated like any cat or dog with a litter box, toys and free roaming their home. Outside is not a safe area for rabbits since they are easily prey animals. I have rabbit proofed my home as much as possible but he has never tried to chew any cords so I am lucky. Most will and do so.
