How Late Will You Open the Door at Night?

If there’s a knock on your door, how late will you open it?

There are kids going around playing Nicky Nicky Knock Knock. It wasn’t that. They tend to bang hard and do it late at night.

There was a knock on our door at 7:30 pm. My husband was home but busy. Behind the closed door, I asked who it was. A delicate female voice gave me a non-answer and I repeated the question. She said she was there to fund raise. I knew my security cameras were watching her. She left when I said I wasn’t interested and headed off around the neighbourhood. Imo, the only fund raising she was doing was for herself.

Talking to a few others, I realized she only went to houses that didn’t have a side panel window. She really upset one lady who lives alone. Another single woman let her in to use the washroom. Wonder if anything went missing. She got a good scolding from another neighbour.

I’ll open the door in the daytime, since we all live close together. Since we have a doorbell, I’m always suspicious if it’s a knock. There’s an older man who always likes to knock. Maybe he doesn’t trust these new fangled doorbells.

We are so rural nobody ever comes to visit us but if they did I probably wouldn’t answer the door. We have cameras which is a real deterrent for people wanting to do harm, or so I would think. I wouldn’t let the woman in if she knocked on my door.

I rarely answer the door or the telephone unless I’m expecting someone that I know.

It’s really quite difficult to know if I’m home or not and I’m fine with that.

I live in a security building and have a steel security door with double locks and a peephole so I am able to see who is at the door unless they make an effort to hide.

I only have one neighbor that occasionally knocks when he is looking for support on an issue with our building management or wants to pump me for some gossip.

I usually open the door for him but I rarely buy into his spiel. 😉🤭😂

Day or night doesn't make a difference. At night the porch light is turned on to be able to see who it is through the peep hole.
The doorbell security camera has infra red so in conjunction with the light that device lets me know who is at my door. If known I'll open it.

I rarely answer the door during the day or night. I've had some squirrely people knock on my door, one pleading for help....so I called the sheriff. He claimed to be having a stroke ?, so the ambulance came too. The sheriff even asked me if anything had been stolen out of my backyard, because he had dropped his sweatshirt by my back gate. Pretty iffy situation.

Ever since I installed my security screen door.....the knocking has been reduced.

I would answer the door in the day time.

Not at night unless I know who it is ( by their voice or I can see them through the glass peep-hole on the door )

I live in a building with great security. If anyone knocks on my door they live in the building and it's a small building. We pretty much know, see or recognize each other. I wouldn't have a problem opening my door late at night.

I have security cameras showing the outside of the house and if I'm at the monitor, I can see anyone approaching, but there is an enclosed porch leading up to the door. Once they've gotten that far, they're out of camera view, but they will still be captured on camera when arriving or leaving. All cameras monitor continually and video is saved 2 weeks.

I also have a peep-hole on the door. If I don't recognize them, I will speak to them through the door because I don't want to be silent and give the impression the house is unoccupied. If I determine they could be a threat, I call 911.
