How many enjoy having yard/garage sales?

Normally this up coming Sat would be our Village Wide Yard Sale but because of the virus, and even though NY is doing much better than it was, it has been canceled . It is wonderful tradition and I'll miss it, the family comes for breakfast and then we all head out to look for goodies and just spend the day. Here's hopping next year we will be able to have it again.
 
We have city-wide yard sales every year here but not this year. The apartment complex I live in also has a couple of yard sales every year but not this year yet. I enjoy watching the people Meandering around and buy some things myself.
 
Our community doesn’t permit them. I have too much stuff that needs to go. There used to be clubs that would rent tables, except not this year.

After every one that I had, I swore that I’d never do it again. Never swear.

For a brief moment I considered loading the things I’ve been purging and putting them into one box. Offer the whole thing for a low, flat price on a local buy and sell. Decided it wasn’t worth the effort.

Had a few garage sales years ago. I put a lot of work into planning, advertising, setting up etc. but never had much success at it.

IMO it simply was not worth the effort so I ended up donating my things to different local thrift stores/charities.

I did go to a few garage sales back then though and got some neat stuff so I guess I was a better "buyer" then a "seller". :giggle:
 
In some ways I enjoy it, some ways I don't. Especially being a lot of work for an old lady that has to do it all by herself. I do meet some interesting people and some jerks. I even make a few bucks here and there. I just wish people collected things like they did years ago. A few years ago it seemed everyone had a collection of something. Now it's like "Ewww...who would want that dirty old junk!" Our village-wide garage sale is usually in May, but has been postponed until Sept. 19th this year for obvious reasons.
 
There are all kinds of people, those that are real die-hard garage sale freaks and some that wouldn't be caught dead looking at other people's second-hand things.

One of the most difficult items to sell ar Christmas decorations. In summer, at the height of garage sale season, people aren't thinking about Christmas, but after early September, people have received their school tax bills and maybe feeling short on money. They are also thinking about saving to buy holiday gifts. The weather is also getting colder and folks don't want to stand outside on a breezy day when it 40F and look at wreaths and stuffed Santas.
