How many times do you wake up at night?

Am easily wakened like a guard dog during sleep that is an evolutionary advantage for those at times sleeping outdoors in natural areas. Apparently almost all other humans only dream during deeper REM sleep. My brain is strangely different in that I have always dreamed 100% of the time I am asleep, even if momentarily. I wake up a few times each night that varies. Almost always will get up to p even if in a warm sleeping bag in a tent outdoors at freezing temperatures.

A primary reason many have sleep issues is from daily regular caffeine consumption as in coffee, cola, tea, and energy drinks. Especially so within a few hours of going to bed. The web has many sites discussing sleep caffeine issues. Another are those taking regular medications or drug sleep aids. A third issue causing frequent insomnia issues are those with day to day irregular hours.

Youngster's thread about lucid dreaming got me thinking about sleep. When I was younger, I slept 6 hours right through, and that was enough sleep for me. Today I sleep about 8 hours and I wake up at least twice-(BR break). Last night I woke up every hour, and was wide awake from 3AM-4 AM, when I got up and watched tv till I felt sleepy. AHH!

depends on the night and how tired i am. the more tired i am i will sleep like a log for several hrs before needing a trip to the br. other nights i'm up and down all night in the br. some nights i am asleep in nothing flat. other nights it takes me 2-4 hrs to finally sleep. some nights i sleep for 4 then wake up for br and decide i feel snacky and have a little something with a cold glass of milk and easily sleep another 4-6 hrs.

Until a few years ago I only woke up once a night to go to the bathroom. Now I wake up every 90 minutes to 2 hours all night long. I have back and neck pain so need to turn over. Then I also go to the bathroom

. Sometimes I go back to sleep quickly and other times I am awake for hours. I used to sleep 8-10 hours and now get 5-7. Sometimes I am really tired.

I also have a cpap machine because my oxygen level goes too low while I sleep without it. I used to have sleep apnea when I was fat. Then I lost 50lbs and was hoping to get rid of the machine since my apnea went away.

Before I retired I was sleeping, if one could call it that, a restless 6 hours a night. Constant waking up. I was on-call 24-7 for any facilities or network issues. Tired all the time. I would nod-out if I sat in a chair too long. Not good.
After retirement, I resolved to improve sleep and get my energy back. I started an exercise regimen of 90 minutes to 2 hours every morning. No more caffeine, de-caff coffee only. Mediterranean diet and only meat is fish. And I don’t drink alcohol so no change. Also, I don’t drink anything 3 hours before bed. I finally got back to 8 hours uninterrupted sleep. Arthritis pain faded away to almost nothing. My resting pulse is down to 60, which I never thought possible (It was 80-90).
My kids think I am crazy and obsessed! They are probably right! But it is more an obsession with feeling good, rested, and full of energy.
