How much of your city/town do you actually visit?

Whilst I was on the bus into the city this morning it came to me that I see very little of the total city of Perth.
Population of 2.21 million people spread over 6,400 sq km.
I travel to and from work, 16 km each way. I go to my local shopping centre, 1km away, I visit the river regularly, 5km away and I go to local sporting matches. All within 10km of home.
Being in the city this morning I took a couple of photographs of the CBD, Murray Street Mall and Forrest Place.
Almost devoid of people at 10am.

I am on the bus to Hollywood Hospital for my operation so may not be able to respond for a while to anyone who responds to this post

I hope you get well soon.

I live in a tiny village. At one time it was fairly self sufficient with a couple of shops, school, pub, garage etc... but one by one they closed as people became more mobile and moved away. This means I have to visit the nearest 'big' town with a population of just over 12,000 for shopping, dentist etc. My nearest city is Aberdeen, 40 miles south, with a population (including suburbs) of about 225,000 - the third largest in Scotland. We only visit it occasionally for the Theatre or specialist shops.

My town consists of a gas station and convenience store, an elementary school, post office, and fire station. There are no stop lights and the speed limit on the town's only road, a highway, is 45 mph. So yes I have explored it all, but the nearest grocery store is 20 miles away, so I put more miles on my car than I would in a regular town. I grew up in Chicago, and I never fit well there, so I seek places like this out. This is the smallest town I have ever lived in.

First off, best wishes for your surgery! Where are the traffic lanes and cars, like in the USA? (We don't have broad, pedestrian-only areas in very many places.) As for myself, my travel is limited to less than 3 square miles, unless someone else is driving. When I am a passenger, I'm always amazed at how things have changed since the last time I was out and about! I have a small life - a true homebody. My grocery, pharmacy, and doctor are all within that limited range. The township that I live in and the nearest city have nothing much to offer. Besides, I enjoy my home-life!

@Em in Ohio , that picture in the OP is a pedestrian precinct... so no cars..

yes I know just about every nook and cranny of my nearest small market town. It's got a small high street.. and several other small roads with small independent stores, no chains here in the town centre,..lots of parks, and rivers... but the suburbs stretch out from the centre for quite a way, making a population of around 25K ..I live a few miles outside of town

... North London is just 20 minute drive..

There are several large towns ..North and West of me... about 15 -20 miles or so either way... .. and London population 9 million .. and I know a fraction of it comparitively .. it's such an urban sprawl... There's many parts I wouldn't want to go at night.. .. I know the major parts of the city centre, and a lot of the tube network, but otherwise, I'm almost like a tourist there tbh

9 million - that's nearly twice the population of Scotland o_O It's a long time since I've been in London, mainly to courses at offices on the South Bank. I can't say that I'm fond of large cities although I worked in a number of them. I stayed in Amsterdam for almost 3 years and walked through a lot of the city. The centre is quite compact and easy to get around.
Favourite city was Hamburg (Germany).

I live downtown in a small city and I know it quite well. I walk around it or ride on my mobility chair. I have lived in bigger cities in my past and am much happier where I am now.
@katlupe, I visit your small town about 6 times a year. I love it, has a lot to offer. You've been to my village, I like it, but it is a changing environment. I know my village inside and out, and the surroundings small towns are like home to me.
