How much was gas?

It was 27 cents and then came the embargo. A friend and I were in one of those long gas lines when the car in front of us ran out of gas. On a hill of course. We helped push his car all the way to the station. Took most of an afternoon to get through the line.

I recall getting $.50 cents worth of gas when driving my Mom's car as a teenager. I do not recall the price. She had some gas already in it but I had to put in my share.

10 cents during gas wars. 12 to 15 cents per gallon was common late 40s early 50s
I was holding off posting because I wasn't sure I was remembering right, but I did run into a gas war traveling through Montana in the early 60s. It was near Billings, with a refinery 10 miles down the road, and I bought gas for 10 cents a gallon. I remember remarking to the attendant how flabbergasted I was by the price of gas. He nodded while looking down the road at a gas station about half mile away, and said, "Yeah, we're having a gas war with that guy. That was the first time I ever heard the term.

Remember the giveaways? My dad stopped for two dollars worth of regular so he could get a set of free glassware. There were other giveaways too, but I can't remember what they were. They could be anything unrelated to gas stations.

During the gas embargo my father bought a Cadillac sedan w a 502 ci, 8.1 L motor cheap during the crisis from a panicked seller. Beautiful car, 4 door, no vinyl roof. Rode like, well a Cadillac zipping up the Merritt Parkway at 80 mph w the 17 year old me driving the parents to grandpa's house. They were always surprised at how short the ride was!

I remember those low prices of the 70s, but I had an Oldsmobile and only got 10 miles per gallon, so it still didn't seem cheap in relation to what I was earning at that time.

I don't remember the prices but I remember the gas shortages in the early 70's. We had to wait in line to get gas and I was driving my father's car, which got a whopping 13 mpg!
Yeah, I seem to remember that gasoline shot up to $1.00 a gallon in north Calif, which we thought was robbery-- even if you could get it.

I was in Maine in the early 70s. I remember it as price doubling from 35 to 70 over night, and then a continual upward creep. For some reason, I especially remember 90 cents a gallon. I think because reaching that point was shocking for me personally.

I remember the; Can only get gas on odd and even days pertaining to what your license
plate number was in Los Angeles.
