How often do you replace your mattress?

Those who sleep alone and always do, and about average weight, when do you change your mattress?
They say 8-10 years but there is no definite time. Do you wait until it sags?
Mine is about ten years and feel okay, except when I sit on it for a long time
my thighs and legs sometimes hurt. No, I'm not going to the doctor.
 

I'd say if it's still firm and feeling good to sleep on, no need to replace it. A good quality mattress can last more than ten years but a lower quality, not so long. Maybe your thighs and legs are hurting more now because you're ten years older than when you got it? 🤷‍♀️ And no worries about me saying "go to the doctor" because that is sooooo not me. :ROFLMAO:
 

I suppose that it depends on the mattress and the people using it. 🤔

When I started sleeping in a single or twin bed about 15 years ago I had trouble finding a quality mattress.

The mattress that I did buy lasted about 10 years.

I took a chance and replaced it with a very, very, firm and slightly expensive compressed mail order mattress from Brooklyn Bedding called The Plank.

The mattress is still very firm, like sleeping on the sidewalk, perfect for me.

I think that it cost around $600.00 in 2020 but it has been worth every penny.

Interesting posts. We had a memory foam mattress for a while, but we both found that after a while the foam took a set, and this meant we were both sleeping in our own individual groove. This in turn meant that the underlying mattress bit was what we were sleeping on, and it wasn't comfortable. Both of us started getting lots of hip and upper leg pain as well as lower back pain.

In the end I gave it away on freecycle, and the lady who collected it thought she'd got something of a bargain, as the mattress looked like new. I did however wonder if she found when she got it home that it was too worn out for her to use.

As for now, we've currently got a sprung mattress, and we've had that for around 10-12 years so far. I turn it regularly, but the internal design of it means we can't flip it upside down. However, we don't suffer from back or hip or leg pain now, but as soon as we do we'll see about replacing it.

We did the same, flipped and turned it every so often. When we went to get a replacement at the same store, they still had our info on file and it was 22 years ago the last time we bought our mattress. Hoping this will be team last one we have to buy.
 
Never, if possible.

I conceded to my girl girlfriend 2 years ago, and replaced my very dilapidated mattress. It was horribly sagged and ripped on the passenger side, due to my previous girl friend's use. My side was still fine.

Anyway, my current gf pointed out that her girl friend was going to throw away a perfectly good 1 year old posturepedic mattress, and that we should take it ! I agreed, and spent $48 for a one day uhaul van rental, and we collected it from her gf's house.

It reeked of cigarette smoke for a few months, but eventually 'outgassed' and now has no smell. It's very comfortable. I was going to buy a new mattress anyway, for my current girl friend's sake, but would never have spent the dough for this posturepedic, which would have been just over $1,000. Got lucky ! :)
