How Times Have Changed

Still love 50's & 60's music!
I just finished completing an online survey for Consumer Cellular. When you come to the question asking what your sex is, there was a time in which you had 2 choices, male or female. Now it's different, completely different.

Male
Female
Non-binary/third gender
Prefer to self describe
Prefer not to answer

So now they give you a choice to put other if that applies to you or to opt out of answering.

Not seeing the issue.

It isn't an issue, it is that it used to be in the olden days we always just had two choices about what swx we are, male or female. Now, because the times have changed, like the title of the thread, that we have 5 choices about what swx we are. All in about 20 years. ;)

I think AI is creating a big " times are changing". It is everywhere already!

We must be inclusive after all, if you get 20% off the cost for being something, that I can see

I find it really sad that something as simple as what sex are you, has become so convoluted. To me, the sex question indicates what sex is listed on your birth certificate male or female. If they need more information, the question should be re-phrased to ask for your gender identity. I, too, can’t see what this has to do with buying a phone. The things we now have to do for inclusivity just to keep everyone happy.

that's correct... they may as well just ask...what's your name... today...or yesterday... or what you want it to be by the time this form is read..... or whatever you decide if there's a y in the month

There has been a lot of scientific research and discovery regarding gender and gender identity. A lot of companies have decided to give their customers the option to choose the one that is the best match for them. Everyone still has their choice to sticking to the two that have always been available. I applaud and support companies that recognize that things aren't as simple as some people want them to be.

They could just mark none, either/or, or both. They just complicate things too much because people are too fussy anymore.

I'm surprised they don't ask what animal they identify as. If they start, I'm a butterfly šŸ¦‹. 😁

I ran into a series of similar questions in a rather lengthy and tedious survey from the folks at Nielsen yesterday.

It’s not just sex/gender look at the number of different kinds and brands of what passes for milk these days or anything else.

I just answer the questions or ignore them.

Good idea and adding animals and /or fish might be helpful. I'm too old for this horse sh - t.
Guy or girl - -take your choice . Just make sure that the restroom stalls have signs on the doors and for the urinals - - -??

My good friend's son came up with a witty: "404: Gender not found"

So much has changed, just in our lifetimes, especially in communications and related fields. Used to be the only ones listening in to a phone call were the other people on your home party line. When they came out with answering machines, it seemed so modern and high-tech. Can one even buy one these days?

My grandmother was a very prim and proper lady. I can't imagine her hitching up a horse and wagon/buggy to go anywhere, wearing a corset, peticoats, and a long dress. Did she shovel out the barn? Groom the horse(s)? How long did it take for her to "go to town"? A trip to town for me takes 30 minutes to go 28 miles. It would have taken perhaps two days back then.

I just shake my head when I think of how much life has changed. People's reactions to just a threat of a power outage are interesting. What? No internet? OMG OMG OMG!!! Whatever shall we do? We're all going to die!

My eldest brother, as a teen, went to work as a checker at a local grocery store. He had to memorize all the prices.

Counter checks. Really?

Why? By using a female urination device (FUD) as the Sunany even women can use men's urinals.
By the way, as my wife urgently needed to go but the loo for females was already in use, I suggested a male loo.
The face of an old man who was waiting outside the closed door was priceless as she came out.
