How Up-To-Date/Modern Are You?

Would you say that it's modern to wear a cowboy hat?
I know you asked ClassicRockr but where we live it’s more of a cultural thing. If you are into country then you wear cowboy hats and boots. If you live in a rural area then it might be more popular but I don’t think it is ever a ‘modern’ look.
It’s just a ‘different’ one.
I’ve got a cowboy hat but I don’t wear it that often. Sometimes I wear it walking the dogs in the summertime. It IS fun though.

Well, since you're obviously not into the "Western" stuff, like horse shows, rodeo, dancing, etc., guess you wouldn't know. Basically, wearing a cowboy hat is totally modern in some areas and states of the U.S.. Look up "the cowboy life" in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Oklahoma and even Texas. There are other states as well. In parts, or all, of those states, a baseball cap and/or cowboy hat is 100% accepted and sometimes expected.

It definitely isn't popular where we live and that's just part of the reason we want to get back to Colorado. It's not too popular in some parts of Colorado, like Denver, but other parts, very, very modern/popular. Go to Casper, Laramie, Cheyenne, Sheridan, Wyoming and they are easily seen. Just like in Montana.

I believe you can wear what you want, or what you feel good in...however I wouldn't have said that cowboy hats are ''Modern''..they just are for some people, a way of life.. as much as jeans are or boots....not modern nor old fashioned..

I have explained to you before that we do have horses and rodeos here too ..but people would only wear their horse gear when they're with their horses or taking part in rodeos etc..

Equally no-one here would wear equestrian clothes in the street... it's not fashionable...but whateva floats ya boat!!

We live in an area where there is lot of farms and stables with horses. If you go into the smaller towns you wouldn’t think twice about seeing people out and about in their cowboy hats and boots minus their horse.

If you went into any of the city’s shopping and saw someone in a cowboy hat and boots you might look twice as it would be more rare but not completely out of the ordinary but perhaps we see more diversity here in Canada

Now, when I talk about cowboy hats, I'm not talking about any kind of cowboy hat, I'm talking a brand...…...Resistol. Back is flat and from bent down a little. Nothing on the hat, but a hat band.

Where I live we are also surrounded by farms and stables and horses, the most we'd ever see anyone in any kind of horse gear ( without their horse) would be at the village store, and then it would only be their riding boots... they certainly would never wear them anywhere else in town or cities..they'd be laughed at... nor would they describe them as fashionable..

Go to Frontier Mall in Cheyenne, Wyoming and most likely you'd see some little boy walking around wearing a cowboy hat, Wrangler jeans, Roper brand boots and chaps. And, most likely this little tike can handle a rope and has his own horse.

Riding boots are different than cowboy boots. Riding boots are worn by folks who do English riding, on an English saddle. The boots are tall and black.

Someone is confusing the word "Modern" with "Popular" as HD mentioned. It's just another excuse to talk about Western costume and brag about brands. Over and over and over. That is why this thread was created, imo.

So again our surroundings are quite similar and parallel. That’s the same as here.

Its not likely I’m going to purchase an airplane ticket just so you can prove a point but you are also taking children here. You might see kids like that here but they’re ‘children.’ That’s different.

Yes you are right that riding boots are different than cowboy boys. They are taller and straighter BUT they don’t just come in black. They come in a variety of colours.

One thing for sure, where you live, sure isn't like Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, the Dakota's, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas or Nebraska.

For our Wedding Anniversary, earlier this month, we went to dinner with some friends at Outback Steakhouse. I was wearing my nice, black Resistol Hat

like this one above. I could see people giving me strange looks, like "where did he come from?" or "why in the heck is he wearing that?" Now, where we are moving to, I won't get any looks at all. That's what we both want back again.

Lol...you’re just too much!! Maybe people give you strange looks for other reasons, like looking at their tattoos or how clean they keep their table, etc and all the other weird things you do. :)

Actually I should know. I've worked at an English Riding Show as well as a Western Horse Show

Oh! So the brand of hat YOU choose is modern, popular and cool but anyone wearing any other type is lame?
For the record, this is an authentic cowboy hat

It still doesn’t make me hip and modern though. :lofl:

Nope. Even the friends we had dinner with told us they could see the looks. They were somewhat surprised that I wore the hat, but my wife loved it. When something sticks out, like a guy wearing a nice cowboy hat in a non-Western area, it's very noticeable.

Yes, a Jumper/Hunter Show is interesting and, to me, much better than a Dressage Show. I could literally go to sleep, because of the music played, at a Dressage Show.

But, give us a pro-rodeo, Cutting or Reining Championship and we are 100% with it.
