How Up-To-Date/Modern Are You?

I'm going through an interesting collision between ancient and modern. I recently started the huge project of dealing with the literally thousands of slides of my family, starting in the 1950's. My husband never believed in taking one picture if 500 would do. The slides are partly in storage books and partly in canisters that fit into the slide projector.

The problem is, most of them are very good. They are wonderful to look at, for me anyway. The scenery ones are gorgeous, some of them masterpieces. The pictures of all of us down through the years - well how can you throw those out?

However, how much interest will my 6 grandchildren and all their descendants have in a bunch of old slides? Maybe enough to glance at them if they are digitized and easy to look at, otherwise not. With Instagram, Facebook, their phones, etc. they have more than enough pictures to look at. So, I've got to decide what to do with them. Otherwise, they will just sit in the storage room down in the basement, and when the time comes, probably get pitched out with the trash. Which would be a shame.

There are services that will digitize your slides, and there are devices that let you digitize them yourself, but they are slow. I gave all my slides (and the projector) to my son, so he can deal with them as he sees fit. I have thousands of "pictures" stored on a computer, but doubt if anyone else has any interest in them.

As an FYI, CDs are an outdata technology. Best Buy stopped selling them in the stores last summer. They were introduced in the 80s, and if that's your claim to being modern, you're a little late.

OTOH, vinyl is making a comeback. Can 8 tracks be far behind? Go figure.

As far as I know, the new cars still have CD players in them. Best Buy stopped selling CD's, but not all big-box stores have. CD's are still highly available to buy online.

Our photos are on usb's so we can show them on our tv. Our Blu-Ray DVD Player has a usb slot in it, as does our tv. At one time, when we were using camera film, we'd get a CD of the photos as well. I have since copied all of those photos onto computer and transferred onto usb's. Done the same to most of our photo prints. Still have a couple of photo albums of prints, but that's it. It took me some time (weeks) to do it, but I finally done it.

Now, all photos that we take, either with our iPhones or digital camera, we transfer to computer, edit and then copy/paste to usb's.

Barnes and Noble bookstore also sells some music CDs still. My '07 Dodge came with a CD player, not sure about the brand new models. I don't know if being up to date and modern has everything to do with technology though. I have a windows 10 computer, smartphone, cable TV, but don't have or desire to have any of the new devices like the home ones that you talk to to turn on your lights. Maybe if I'm disabled someday and can't look things up on my own, flick a switch or turn a knob.

So, just how "modern" are you?

I know my way around USB (U Shouldn't Bother) stuff

'course that's gonna go away one day

heh, 'modern' changes daily anymore

always colouring my hair '

Electronicly I am up-dated...My children, childrens, children (I think my great grand children) keep me updated on electronics. The second grader has a chrome book (computer) which the school provides brings it home and does his home work on it called e-assignments, (electronic school). My favorite is video chat on my cell phone where I can call them and see them on my cell phone screen while we talk. As for me, my dress-up needs updated, I still wear plaid flannel shirts and subscripe to home delivery news paper.

I’m very modern and up to date fashion wise.
Most of my clothes are fashionable leggings that I wear with high boots since it’s winter but I also sometimes wear skirts and dresses with high heels at times ( but not often ).
My nails are always painted, I always wear a bit of make - up and my hair is always clean and styled. I don’t however colour it as I very much enjoy the natural silver grey it’s become and think it suites me and if doesn’t it’s so much less hassle than colouring it. ( it’s too much to colour )
My nail polish usually matches the scrunchies and / or hair accessories I use and then I often add a streak of colour to my bangs / fringe ( for Holly lol ) that matches the nails so I’m colour co-ordinated.

My music selection is very diverse and mostly modern however I do enjoy many golden oldies as well.

I dress similarly to you, Holly.

I do my shopping with my daughter. She's a whiz at knowing what suits me best. I call her my fashion consultant, lol.

Funny, my wife's ex-husband hated her wearing a baseball cap and she didn't start wearing a cowboy hat until she started square dancing, after her divorce to him. Then again, she was never around anything Western, until after she divorced him. I absolutely love it when she wears a baseball cap and love it even more when she wears her cowboy hat. One time she put on a visor cap, but I told her that she didn't look that good in it. She totally agreed and never put one on again.

Would you say that it's modern to wear a cowboy hat?

Well, since you're obviously not into the "Western" stuff, like horse shows, rodeo, dancing, etc., guess you wouldn't know. Basically, wearing a cowboy hat is totally modern in some areas and states of the U.S.. Look up "the cowboy life" in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Oklahoma and even Texas. There are other states as well. In parts, or all, of those states, a baseball cap and/or cowboy hat is 100% accepted and sometimes expected.

It definitely isn't popular where we live and that's just part of the reason we want to get back to Colorado. It's not too popular in some parts of Colorado, like Denver, but other parts, very, very modern/popular. Go to Casper, Laramie, Cheyenne, Sheridan, Wyoming and they are easily seen. Just like in Montana.
