I'm going through an interesting collision between ancient and modern. I recently started the huge project of dealing with the literally thousands of slides of my family, starting in the 1950's. My husband never believed in taking one picture if 500 would do. The slides are partly in storage books and partly in canisters that fit into the slide projector.
The problem is, most of them are very good. They are wonderful to look at, for me anyway. The scenery ones are gorgeous, some of them masterpieces. The pictures of all of us down through the years - well how can you throw those out?
However, how much interest will my 6 grandchildren and all their descendants have in a bunch of old slides? Maybe enough to glance at them if they are digitized and easy to look at, otherwise not. With Instagram, Facebook, their phones, etc. they have more than enough pictures to look at. So, I've got to decide what to do with them. Otherwise, they will just sit in the storage room down in the basement, and when the time comes, probably get pitched out with the trash. Which would be a shame.
There are services that will digitize your slides, and there are devices that let you digitize them yourself, but they are slow. I gave all my slides (and the projector) to my son, so he can deal with them as he sees fit. I have thousands of "pictures" stored on a computer, but doubt if anyone else has any interest in them.
