How Well Is COVID Contact Tracing Working In Your City/State?

According to Gov. Murphy, when their training is completed and they are sent into the field, N.J. will have 2,300 contact tracers. I'm sure if my constituents and I weren't retired, the state would have called on us to join those numbers due to our expertise when it comes to interviewing and eliciting contacts having worked in the STD program. Unfortunately 60% of the people are not cooperating and providing contacts. Our unit's stats were never that dismal.

The governor wants 30 contact tracers per county for every 100,000 citizens and has accomplished that number for several counties. What is your state doing about contact tracing? Do you know how many are in the field? How successful have their efforts been?

I don't know of any contact tracing activity in our rural county, however, we get our local TV news from Columbia, MO., and this evening there was a report saying that they need dozens of "tracers". Apparently, they are having a hard time keeping these tracers...most quit after a fairly short time.
 
Honestly I'm not sure. I don't see how it would work if people are running all over the place going everywhere and being around everyone. I could never keep it all straight.
 

I just read the posting were reading now, Contact Tracing, and the following article was posted on a local news feed:

ALERT: Scammers posing as contact tracers have been preying on Ohioans. Legitimate contact tracers will initially reach out by phone and will never ask for your Social Security number, your bank account number or any other financial information. NEVER click on a link or respond to a text saying you have been exposed to COVID-19. If you have concerns about whether a call is legitimate, contact your local health department.

The person that posted this alert, recommended just hanging up on them if they were able to find your cell phone number. A lot of people don't have land lines. It makes you wonder just how accurate and reliable it could be.
 
I don't hear much about contact tracing on the news for Ohio. We just keep getting reports of the total number of daily new cases and deaths, and covid hospitalizations. It's depressing.
 
Ontario stopped using contract tracing for a while claiming it was impossible to tracing so many people. They were ordered to try harder. Some money was tossed at them to hire more people.
I don't believe the numbers, they seem to work well with politicos statements which confuse the h--l out of those people that know. Like real doctors , specialists that send letters in with hundreds of Dr. signatures. These letters are clear in what should be done to stop the virus.
 

Devi Some suggested severe shut downs, but that did not work with the economy.​

Others suggested shutting down airlines, closing borders to all people not from Canada.
The list goes on...
The best thing for me is to isolate and use common sense, avoiding crowds. You can still have a life being careful, using the internet. Just being very carefull.

So do you believe the numbers are higher or lower than reported LL?
 
I can tell you that we had 4 people who had covid and only 2 of us were ever contacted for contact tracing. And my Dad was contacted well after it would do any good to warn people. So in Mi I'd say we're not doing to well with contact tracing.

OneEyedDiva I think they are lower, they admit there are still people out there spreading the virus. Very likely not even knowing they are doing it. I hope that is the situation. A lot of people are doing what I am doing up here. Avoid crowds, mask when you go where others are and careful on handling purchases.​

Thinking the numbers are lower makes sense since people are not being tested en masse yet. I've heard people say they think the numbers are being inflated. You're doing the best thing. The recommendation has been to leave non perishable groceries in their bags for a couple days before putting them away. Anything that goes into my fridge gets disinfected first.

I think that's a good idea but I'll bet some don't want to give that information.
