How Will You Deal with the High Price of Gas?

People who still need to go out might want to share a ride. I'm not ready for that or taking public transportation.

If you know and trust friends and family, might work.

Currently, have an emergency food supply, if food is an issue. Notice the issues on the new not having good water is bad, so have a personal filter.
See, this may also be a problem if most of your food is frozen..as mine is.. because if we start to get electricity cuts as we did in the oil crises in '73 when we would only have electricity 3 days a week, then all stored frozen food will be ruined.

Precisely and at £1.70 a LITRE here in the uk it doesn't take the brain of Einstein to know we're going to see either some serious shortages of everything, or massive price hikes.

Today in the supermarket I saw 3 hairbands.. the type you use to hold a ponytail.. usually the cost would be around £1 maybe £2... max... but today £8.00 !.... that's just a tiny example..

I also went into the Pound store ( Poundland).. huge empty shelves ... and the stuff that remained was very poor quality...
I was in Poundland this morning....no empty shelves..got some tinned Salmon for £1 a tin, digestive biscuits at 50p a packet, packs of six petit pains at 50p and some toilet rolls for £1.
Also stocked up with some ASDA smart price soup, baked beans and sausage and beans. All between 22p and 40p.
And I’m glad I don’t drive and travel free on the bus.

I don't look at food in poundland, I was talking more about hardware etc..

TBH if all there was in the world to eat was Asda Smart price canned food, I would starve to death....

Ron and I continue to drive to and from work every day. We put several hundred miles a week on our vehicles. His work van costs more in gas than my Hybrid.

I always consolidate trips. Did so long before the gas prices went up. It just makes sense and saves time. Because I’m out every day on my way to and from work, I get as much done during that drive time as I can. Grocery shopping or other errands on my way home, other appointments either at the beginning or end of my day so I don’t have to take the car out a second time.

had old reliable hyundai smashed into at beginning to 2020... a few months before covid rode into town. gas prices were normal back then but driving was down to almost nothing for months. didn't go back to work and doubt i've put more than maybe 2500 miles on the "new to me" car in a little over 2 years.

that low fuel light came on and i had to buy gas. tank hold a little over 16 gallons. cost me almost $60 to fill with regular.

what are these "karens" gonna do if we end up with odd/even gas days?

We have been here before. There were a series of energy crises between 1967 and 1979 caused by problems in the Middle East but the most significant started in 1973 when Arab oil producers imposed an embargo.

The decision to boycott America and punish the west in response for supporting Israel in the Yom Kippur war against Egypt, led the price of crude to rise from $3 per barrel to $12 by 1974. The price at the pump quadrupled, making all transport more expensive. There was even talk in Britain of rationing using coupons left over from the second world war.

The government, led by Prime Minister, Ted Heath, was already struggling to cope with high food prices caused by global shortages. This fed into an inflation rate which, under Harold Wilson's government, hit more than 24% (by comparison, inflation in January 2022 was at 5%, more than double the Bank of England's current target of a 2% inflation rate).

A crisis like the current one can act as a catalyst, providing Putin doesn't press the button.
The contribution made by renewable energy to UK power generation has more than doubled since 2014.
Renewable energy, (mainly wind, solar, biomass, hydro) accounted for 43% of the UK's 312 TWh of domestic power generation in 2020.
S&P Global Platts Analytics forecasts renewable energy plus nuclear will account for 56% of UK power demand in 2026, with wind output set to double from current levels to 131 TWh/year.

Another spin off from the rising cost of fuel is the nation's fitness levels will rise and obesity will fall.

Believe that and you must still believe in the tooth fairy.

I just quit buying it but I will still be paying for it as the prices of everything go up with it.
that's precisely it..regardless of whether anyone owns a vehicle or doesn't drive their vehicle from one month to the next.. everyone will still be paying for it because of inflated prices at the checkouts... not just for food but for absolutely everything. Diesel in the uK is currently £1.70 per litre in many places ..there's no possible way companies , (which we must remember also were badly hit this last 2 years with the effects of the pandemic).. can sustain those prices...

You are exactly right. I do not drive but it will still affect me. No one can deny that this type of stuff just keeps piling up. It's been going on for a few years now. Everyday I wonder what is next. With out a doubt there is some type of force behind it all? I know I have never seen anything like this in my lifetime. Someone has unlocked a door somewhere.

precisely my thoughts. We were warned about this 54 % price hike in our energy bills on the 1st of April , long before Putin started his war... something stinks in the state of Denmark IMO..

what are these "karens" gonna do if we end up with odd/even gas days?
It won't just be the "Karens" who would be massively inconvenienced if we end up with fuel shortages and odd/even days. I recall having to get up at 4:00 am to get in line on my designated day, then wait in the already-significant line for several hours hoping
1. The station wouldn't run out of fuel before it was my turn
2. I'd manage to get to work on time

Yeah, we all went through those gas shortages, but we sure didn't do so graciously. Lots of b!tching and moaning going on - myself included.

I couldn't eat canned food either. Everything I eat is fresh or at worst frozen.
well I occasionally eat canned Baked beans or canned peas..or even canned Tuna on rare occasions.. but Asda is a horrible downbeat store.. and their 'smart'' range has got to be the lowest value type of food ever...

I don't drive much at all and have a 4 cylinder so it's not a problem for me. That is unless you want me to pull my hair out of my head and have a tantrum. :p
Me too, Ruthanne. I drive a nice little Ford Focus, 4 cyclinder, of course. No SUV for me! No 4X4 with V8 motor for me. No worry about the price of gas for me! Those who drive monster trucks and cars will suffer.

We don't have Asda stores here, but there are definitely lower quality grocers with dreadful quality private label foods.
Asda, is a horrible type of supermarket..grubby inside.. the meat always looks grey.. it was bought by your grocery chain Walmart a few years ago.. but they didn't keep it long before they sold it. It was probably giving Walmart a bad name.. :ROFLMAO:

I have a Ford fusion, 4 cylinder, it just cost me £33 2 days ago to fill my car with the tank already 1/2 full... ..making it around £65 to fill... approx $84 US at todays' exchange rate,.
