I am very definitely a senior, mother of 3 and grandmother of 6, some of whom are already grown! And no pets any more, but "Sunny" was the name of my wonderful golden retriever.

I've been an active member of various forums probably since the 80's. Anyone else here remember *Prodigy? I'm currently on another one, mostly participating in word games and puzzles. I'm always happy to find new online friends.

I had two careers, elementary school teacher and computer programmer analyst.

I live in a senior community, designed for independent people 55 and over. We have tons of activities, and could easily be busy around the clock.

I'm in suburban Maryland, a short drive from DC. Guess that's enough for now. I'm looking forward to joining the discussion here.
 

Welcome, Sunny! I'm fairly new myself and found this to be a wonderful gathering spot with a great group of people.

I have friends who just bought a home in a senior development and they rave about it. If you care to participate, there are several things planned at no cost at their Clubhouse every evening. Their neighbors have quickly become like family and can't do enough for each other. I hope you enjoy your community as well.

Yes, Sunny was a wonderful dog, by far the best pet we ever owned. We got her at the animal shelter, unbelievably. She was a gorgeous golden retriever, about 2 years old at the time, and was found wandering on a highway, with no tags or any identification. She was very friendly and knew a few commands, such as "Sit," so obviously she had lived with people. But nobody ever came to claim her (and how did she get out on the highway, anyway?) so we adopted her. Best decision we ever made.

My late husband adored her, and took her to the park to play ball nearly every day. We had her for about 10 years, but had to say goodbye when we moved from WA state back to MD to be near one of our children, as we were living thousands of miles from all of them. We moved to a high rise building, which does not permit dogs over 25 pounds. Fortunately, we had good friends in WA with a golden retriever of their own. The dogs were good buddies and Sunny felt at home in their house, so we were delighted and very grateful when they let Sunny move in with them. She died about a year later.

Not to get too maudlin about this, I have to quote a cute cartoon I saw. A family is burying their pet in their back yard (you see a little coffin), and the mother says to the sad-faced children, "Don't feel bad, kids, Muffy will live on forever in our computer passwords!"
 
Just wanted to answer all of you, thanks for the warm welcome. I'm enjoying this forum tremendously, I think a lot of the posts are very interesting, and I've been delighted with the response to my limerick game. I had tried that on another bb, and finally gave up, as those people had no idea of what a limerick is - obviously not the case here!

I also enjoy reading the thoughtful and supportive discussions. So glad I found this place!
 
Very happy that you're here too Sunny. Nice folks like yourself are what makes this forum so special. :love_heart: I was introduced to limericks many years ago in my youth, by a man from Nantucket. :playful: First time I played a game like that, and it's a lot of fun, thanks for the cool thread. :happy:
