How's your handshake ?

A person's handshake is supposed to say a lot about them, well a lady I met today shook my hand so hard I thought she'd broken my wrist !!

It made me consider my own which, I suppose is more of a 'handhold', leaving any pressure up to the recipient

How's yours, are you a 'fist crusher' or a 'barely there' type of person ?

I'd be really angry if someone shook my hand so hard that it hurt at all, man or woman...and I'd probably have to say something to them in the moment. With me it depends on what the handshake is about. If it's just meeting someone and saying hello, then it's probably more gentle with a mild shake. If it's someone who is getting congratulated or a friend who's working on a project with you and you're celebrating, then it would be a little more firm and vigorous.
 
Just occurred to me. Have you noticed that the younger generation has given up on "shaking hands" ?

Now, they are simply "bumping fists"; which isn't a bad idea; less physical contact; hence, more sanitary.

It may be more sanitary but I guess I'm just old school because I don't like the bumping fists thing and refuse to do it......this is a handshake.

You were taught? Interesting. I was never taught and I have no idea what my handshake is like. I usually just try to match it to the one shaking hands with me.

This handshake thing is going to endear you to someone doesn't work.

Politicians always shake hands firmly. It's supposed to represent power or something. To me it's just not genuine.

I wasn't taught either Camper, it's just something that occurred naturally and without much thought.....like a friendly hug.

Yes, taught. In a class I took when I was very, very young - "How to Win Friends and Influence People" - based on the Dale Carnegie book of the same name. I learned things there that helped me my entire business life. It was a popular book as well as class in the 1950s. Maybe before your time.

I knew a pilot several years ago that would not shake hands because he was afraid of getting germs. I guess this was before there were bottles of hand sanitizers hanging everywhere. He always apologized and said he had OCD. He also wore gloves while he was flying. Definitely a strange man, but to each his own.
