I’ve never heard of this before, covering the mirror during a thunderstorm.

I LOVE a good thunderstorm. The BEST one I ever saw was while we were up at my parents cottage before it got turned into a house. My husband and I were sleeping out in the trailer in the backyard when it started and there were lightning balls going everywhere. Lightning balls are when sparks from the lightning are so charged they detach and move around on their own.
They are bigger than beach balls and carry an electrical charge. They travel along the ground at lightning speed . I’ll try and find some lightning ball pictures online to try and show you what they look like because it’s extraordinary. It was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen as far as storms go.

Ive swam in thunder storms often but my husband freaks when I do.

They looked like this only there were dozens of them scurrying around everywhere on the ground.
It was similar to pieces flying off sparklers when you light them only these electrical balls would stay active and go up power lines, metal fences, antennas, etc. It was a once in a life time event that most people don’t believe when we tell them but my husband and I saw it all and it was incredible.
Electrically charged balls like these that were 1 to 2 feet wide were travelling along the ground everywhere.

It looked similar to these from the lightning but there were far more of them.

It was the greatest light show ever courtesy of Mother Nature.

In a similar vein, many people from different cultural groups cover their mirrors during a lightning storm, thinking the mirror could attract lightning, or that the reflection of the lightning could kill them. ... In short, lightning is generated in an electrically charged storm.
