I am craving split pea soup.

I would prepare this soup ... but hubby dislikes it. Mother made the best soup.

I love split pea soup but have not been able to find split peas this fall. They are blaming it on climate change. I have one bag that I am holding onto.

obviously your body is telling you that it needs something in split pea soup. Don't know, don't understand but I get the same gravings at weird times.
Coke when I have a cold. Why.....because as a kid we would get coke syrup from the drug store which was sold as a cold remedy . Since then, when I am down I want a warm coke. Go figure.

Split bea soup, don't think it maters what brand. Your body just wants what is in split pea soup. We can really get technical on this but I think it is a waste of time. Get some split pea soup. Makes you feel better..............good.
Like I said, coke was my go to when I was sick. Don't know why.................it just was what I needed to get thru how I felt.

Somethings in life defy explanation. They just are.

I love soup but we can't have any kind that contains meat because my son is vegan and we can't have pea soup anymore because my husband has developed a Zenker's diverticulum in which a pea can lodge and stay for days.

We have been eating Vegan chili once a week and loving it.

Get you a smoked ham hock or smoked turkey leg for around $5 and avoid eating all that ham. Can you post up your mom's recipe, pls? My mother's recipe was about the same the PP posted above, but water instead of chicken stock.
It appears close. Mom used chicken stock, onions, carrots, all in very small mince. Coarse ground pepper and sea salt. A splash of good white wine topped with very homemade garlicky croutons. This is now my recipe.

funny your craving split pea soup..I just eyed that ham bone I've been saving in the freezer.
We need to make a pot and use up the bones too. Have 3 now... But ours takes some time...
1st need to make more veggie and bone broth.
Soak 2 bags of peas, (yes 2... we make a batch) then pressure cook them with the ham bone and spices.
Then into the BIG pot with ham more broth carrots potatoes herbs and spices to slow cook a few hours.
Eating depends on the plans for leftovers, Can or Freeze. If canning will have the jars ready, pack and start pressure canning.
If freezing will eat and once cool go into containers then Vac-u-seal after a day or so.

Not sure what you mean by this. I typically buy a 10 lb bag of russets for $1.99 - $2.99.
Paid $2.49 yesterday - just checked the bag, they're indeed from Washington.
LA is a very competitive market, and being in close proximity to 3 potato (and onion) producing states so they are continually offered "deals" by shippers. ID potatoes are typically more expensive than WA or OR so it's hard for Idaho shippers to sell there unless they sell very cheaply.
