Yay for you!funny you craving split pea soup...i just eyed that ham bone i ve been saving in the freezer..and i am going to make split pea soup...tomorrow
Walmart.com sells them for $1.38/pound bag. I just checked.I love split pea soup but have not been able to find split peas this fall. They are blaming it on climate change. I have one bag that I am holding onto.
WM moved the bags of lentils, split peas, etc. A clerk showed me where - over beside the tins of soup on a top shelf. It may be the same in your store. Thereās probably not a huge demand for these items.I love split pea soup but have not been able to find split peas this fall. They are blaming it on climate change. No, I shop online and they weren't being offered for months. I checked again today and they seem to be back.WM moved the bags of lentils, split peas, etc. A clerk showed me where - over beside the tins of soup on a top shelf. It may be the same in your store. It appears close. Mom used chicken stock, onions, carrots, all in very small mince. Coarse ground pepper and sea salt. A splash of good white wine topped with very homemade garlicky croutons. This is now my recipe.Get you a smoked ham hock or smoked turkey leg for around $5 and avoid eating all that ham. Can you post up your mom's recipe, pls? My mother's recipe was about the same the PP posted above, but water instead of chicken stock.
We need to make a pot and use up the bones too. Have 3 now... But ours takes some time...funny your craving split pea soup..I just eyed that ham bone I've been saving in the freezer.
Use an Emersion Blender on the peas turns them into a cream...we can't have pea soup anymore because my husband has developed a Zenker's diverticulum in which a pea can lodge and stay for days.
Made it yesterday afternoon. Baked a potato and ladled some of the soup over it. Heaven!
Has anyone here tried making it in an instant pot?
Not sure what you mean by this. I typically buy a 10 lb bag of russets for $1.99 - $2.99.The Idaho Potato Commission approves this message. (Although LA is a notoriously "cheap" market so spuds were just as likely to be WA or OR as Idaho.)
That's what I do, too.Use an Emersion Blender on the peas turns them into a cream...
LA is a very competitive market, and being in close proximity to 3 potato (and onion) producing states so they are continually offered "deals" by shippers. ID potatoes are typically more expensive than WA or OR so it's hard for Idaho shippers to sell there unless they sell very cheaply. Not sure what you mean by this. Paid $2.49 yesterday - just checked the bag, they're indeed from Washington.
