I am done buying clothes.

I'm at 44 pounds lost now (yes, I'm bragging) and all of my old pants and shorts are falling off me.

Luckily, I remembered I have a packer full of things that are 2-3 sizes down and I HAVE A NEW WARDROBE!!!

Most of my t-shirts are still wearable and I can finally get back into a couple of dresses for nicer occasions.

The only thing I plan to go shopping for are bras, as "the girls" aren't looking so perky these days after the weight loss.

Way to go, girl! Losing weight is not easy, as I know so well. I've struggled to maintain my weight, all my life.
Enjoy your new wardrobe :)

Well, I can't take full credit for that as I'm in a clinical trial for a liver drug (and it has done wonders for my liver numbers) which has a slight weight-loss element.

However, I have religiously also watched my diet, eaten more healthily and have given up some bad habits and some bad food, so I'll take *some* of the credit.

it annoys me that in places where they sell clothing predominantly for the older lady that it's very rare to find a dress that is suitable for summer, but is not sleeveless or short sleeves.. Why don't designers and manufacturers know that most women after a certain age don't want to show off fat or wrinkly or wobbly upper arms.. and design and make more dresses, T-shirts and blouses with 3/4 sleeves... for women over 50...without them looking like they've been designed for a 100 year old dead person...
Once I hit my 50s I noticed that most of my clothing options were styled & sized for two categories of women:
1. Hip, somewhat daring, teens through young women (junior sizes)
2. Women with fewer apparel aspirations than a wardrobe limited to bulletproof black and navy polyester along with ugly coordinating prints.

As bad as it is for everyday wear, women's formal wear for the over 50 set is a flipping nightmare. It's a far easier task for a bride to find a proper dress than for her mother and MIL to do so. I almost always wear dressy pants outfits for formal events - gave up on dresses completely.

My reasons for resorting to summer and winter "uniforms" (above #18) came after years of frustration. I don't particularly like shopping for clothing, so when I eventually stumbled over brands/styles/sizes that reliably feel comfortable, fit well, look good and suit most occasions, I went all in on them.

Hi,
My wife has found more usable clothing at Kohls and Walmart than the various department stores around here. And I have found many pull over shirts and T-shirts there as well. But the OP's feeling of not buying any more clothes is understandable. Many of us tend to wear the same stuff over and over, and our days of going to formal events are long gone.

When we were ATVing I bought men's jeans at Walmart,, the denim is heavier.
I've finally wore them out, after 17 yrs.
They have been patched many times.

I looked on line,,,no way am I paying that. kind of money for ladies jeans!
The fabric was thinner in the one pair I bought.

Off to the Goodwill store I went.
Between that & finding used jeans in 'antique' stores I feel I have enough jeans.
As for tops Men's T -shirts are ok with me

So far most of my older ladies tops still fit.

Pretty sure even I could get away with my night wear there.
well even here where we don't even have Walmart we've heard of the ridiculous clothing people go shopping wearing in Walmart.... why don't the stores stop them entering if they're not dressed appropriately.? here for example you can't go into supermarket stripped to the waist... especially women.. :ROFLMAO: seriously no shirt no service is the rule... and certainly if someone was to walk in to any store like this they would be refused entry...

I agree. I have googled 3/4 sleeves and found a few possibilities.

Agree. I have been using Amlactin cream on my arms at night and lifting light weights and this year I am showing some arm. Some. When it's over 90°. I always carry a denim shirt though, to put on in the stores that run their AC's like a freezer.
amlactin cream ?.. does that remove 5 pounds of ugly Fat ?.. if it's just a moisturiser, I have no need for it... :D

Its good for thinning skin. I got it because I have my Grandma's veins in my hands. Bulging blue. The only people not offended are the ones drawing blood.
I've noticed though, it's making my arm skin less crepey.
The veins are a bit less noticeable.

I;m glad it's working for you..(y)

I have the opposite really thick skin... think you can see that in this pic....so it's difficult to give blood because they can never find a vein...

I know what you're facing. So many stores are selling clothes for teeny tiny people! Also, the quality isn't as good as back in the day and the prices are ridiculous. I went looking for slips once, I found knee length slips in Walmart. I really wanted calf length, so just bought one. I found other slips on Amazon, also knee length. I ordered the recommended size. It was too small, order the next size in black months ago. The dye is still bleeding out of it. Other slips cost more than what I felt they were worth.

I have so many clothes that I decided I'm going to purge again. I have seven space bags, a mid sized suitcase, a walk in closet, an armoire and two six foot dresser drawers full of clothes. I also have a jumbo space bag with clothes I have to clean (I do at home cleaning with the Dryel system). I have a ridiculous amount of coats and jackets, mostly because I couldn't resist buying them at incredible thrift-consignment store prices. Among my coat collection are a wool maxi coat and two designer, wool, three quarter coats...total cost for all three $15. I've also found great deals on all weather jackets at my favorite thrift-consignment shop. I've had raincoats for decades that are still in great shape.

So like you, I really don't need anything else. I bought new undies a few months ago. I have plenty of trouser socks and heavier knee socks. I may have to try and find sheer knee highs soon though. I ordered a three pair pack of Berkshire knee highs from Amazon but they're a bit too long.

OneEyedDiva: I'm so glad you still wear slips. When I was young we always called them petticoats. I was only looking for some new ones and asked the girl in the underwear department if they stocked them. She looked surprised and didn't know what I was talking about. She asked a senior saleslady who said they were called slips. I did find one slip in a white but when I tried it on it came down to my calves. Can't seem to find them anywhere.

Bless you Holly. I'm not worthy of your hand-me-downs. My ten dollar shoes would never work. Also I'm too fat for them. Thank you though.

They don't seem to actually exist. It was some store I'd never heard of, but the prices were low so I went for it. Now when I Google the name I get nothing. I do believe I've been scammed.

I'm not sad about the lost money, it wasn't much, it's just that I still don't have any clothes.

I really am done trying for a while at least. I like living in my jammies in this hot weather.
I'm sorry to hear about your experience.
It's frustrating when things don't turn out as expected.

I have mixed feelings on obese women deliberately displaying their rolls of fat. On the one hand, women and men have been fat shamed severely since post wwII times. They have been shamed to wear tents to cover themselves. So, now they wear this grossness with pride & ostentation. If this is proof they are no longer ashamed that's fine by me. It's not my business. I wouldn't do it, display like that if I looked like that, but hey...........whatever. Low class though. There is a shapely young woman in my bldg. who displays herself this way, but looks "better" doing it. She's low class too. She also has severe mental problems.

I've wondered why Ross and Marshall's and their ilk don't have a bigger selection of clothing for larger ladies. They're missing out on a demographic that has disposable income and would absolutely mob a store that offered fashionable clothing in size 20 instead of navy blue and little-old-lady-print tent dresses. Hmmmmph.

I think because many women don’t give a crap. At least that’s my observation from seeing the folks round here in our very hot summers. Clearly the stuff must sell or the manufacturers wouldn’t keep making it.

I completely agree with you @hollydolly, I have no interest in showing off my upper arms. I’m still able to wear short sleeves, but I no longer wear anything sleeveless, unless it’s a tank under something with sleeves.

I see senior women all the time wearing tops or bottoms that I stopped wearing years ago! There’s a part of me that admires their insouciance, as it’s obvious that they’re indifferent to the way they appear.

I just can’t get there for myself. I’m not a vain person at all, but I am self-aware enough to choose to minimize my less attractive physical traits and enhance the better ones.

My legs are long, (it’s where most of my height comes from..5’8”) and slim still so I have no problem wearing leggings and skinny jeans, but they’re always paired with a loose tunic length top that skims my thighs, to minimize my poochy midsection and the extra padding on my hips.

This is the age of “accept yourself as you are/don’t body shame/eliminate negative body image issues” etc. I wholeheartedly agree with getting rid of the unhealthy body stereotypes modeled for younger people, getting rid of the trend to curate a perfect body image for social media, and teaching that self esteem and self worth isn’t about what you look like but rather who you are.

I abhor the idea that anyone should feel like they have to dress to please others, dress so that they don’t offend other people etc but somewhere in this current trend of let’s not body shame it seems that the idea of dressing attractively, dressing to enhance one’s appearance, has just been lost. 😞

insouciance /ĭn-soo͞′sē-əns, ăɴ″soo͞-syäɴs′/
noun

  1. Blithe lack of concern; nonchalance.
  2. Carelessness; heedlessness; thoughtlessness; unconcern.
I don't see it that way at all. Should we all be clad in burkas after turning 50, so as not to offend others with our facial wrinkles, age spots, saggy skin, crepey skin, reduced muscle tone, whatever?

This is what aging bodies look like - dereliction of duty doesn't cause these changes.

We're not going to look like 20 year olds again - we've already had our turn. Now we get to look like people who've lived long, full lives. Why should we feel uncomfortable about embracing this period of our lives?

I wear what I like, not due to carelessness, thoughtlessness, unconcern or indifference about my appearance, but as a statement of my acceptance of who I am and what I look like now.

Some stores don’t have change rooms. I watched a hefty woman in her 50s displaying her full rear in a 90 degree angle as she tried on a pair of shorts. Hope she found some.

@StarSong I completely agree. I hope you didn’t misunderstand what I wrote.

In fact I actually said “ abhor the idea that anyone should feel like they have to dress to please others, dress so that they don’t offend other people etc”

I long ago stoped trying to conform to others’ ideas of what is right, appropriate, attractive and the like and I applaud anyone who feels similarly. I do however have some self-consciousness related to wearing what I think looks unattractive on me and that’s where I aspire to a level of insouciance that I don’t have.

If my post sounded judgy, I apologize. It wasn’t meant that way.
