I am fast becoming a fan of Harry Wales

Harry Wales?
You may know him better as Prince Harry who served in Afghanistan as Harry Wales.

This wek I watched the opening ceremony to the Invictus Games in Toronto and if this young man does nothing else in his life, these games, and the spirit that they encourage, will be a sufficient legacy.

When he was younger I thought him a bit of an upper class twit but now that I see what his values are I have changed my mind. I see someone with a zest for life, who enjoys being alive and wants others to live their lives to the full too. He has used his position of privilege to help create a space where injured war veterans from all over the globe can find new meaning in life after being physically or mentally injured in service of their country.

What brought this rush of love for the prince? Watch this video.

Cute, eh?

The 2018 Invictus Games will be held in Sydney and I am thinking that I would like to attend. This is uncharacteristic of me. When the 2000 Olympics took place over here, hubby and I fled the country. This time I feel duty bound to support.

“We had three key criteria. First, it had to be an iconic city – somewhere known the world over. Second, it needed to be a city with a proud military heritage, which would welcome competitors from all over the world with open arms. And finally, we wanted to go somewhere where they are absolutely sports mad and would really get behind our competitors. It was an easy decision really – the 2018 Invictus Games are coming to Sydney.”Prince Harry

Has anyone watched the Invictus Games before?

I guess knowing that with the Queen having a (traditional) heir, and a (probable) heir, and a spare, and yet another spare, and a spare in the oven, Harry doesn't ever have to worry about being the King of England. That would take a load off anybody's mind.

Yeah, I think he's adorable, too.

"When he was younger I thought him a bit of an upper class twit "

Harry was never that.

Take your cue from the kids.

Children of all ages and races love him (and he them).

As you know, I have no time for his mother, but this is one welcome trait he inherited from her.

I wonder whether we could elect him King of Australia?

I used to think it strange that in the Stars Wars universe you could have an elected queen. Now I think it is not such a bad idea to have an elected Head of State somewhere between a monarch and a viceroy. We could do away with the hereditary tradition but give them enough time to settle in to the role before having another election. I think 21 years would be long enough and no-one older than forty or forty-five need apply. Candidates would need to have had at least one real job and look good in fancy dress and uniforms.

I'm just wild about Harry!

No, I really am, but when did they change their name again? I thought it was Windsor.

His name is actually Battenberg if you strip all the PC away.

However, his father, the so-called Prince of Wales, was Flight Lieutenant Wales when he was serving, and the son naturally took the same name. I believe William is also known as Wales.

Thanks, Laurie. So, Elizabeth is a Windsor still or is she a Wales too? And Philip and his descendants are all Wales' then?

Quite agree with you Laurie, I have always thought he is a lovely lad.

Gathering from what I've just read from a number of sources, the royal family didn't even have a last name until 1917. Up until then, they just used the name of the house/castle/palace in which they were living. The King in 1917 decreed that the family name would henceforth be Windsor. When Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne, she changed that to Mountbatten-Windsor, Mountbatten being Prince Phillip's adopted name (anglicized from Battenberg) and her children went by that name. I get the impression that they can call themselves whatever they want to. I'm not sure why "Wales" popped up (except for being Prince of Wales), but it works. Short and catchy. Get rid of that unnecessary "of" and it's quite nice.

Harry's name is not nor was it ever Battenberg...that was his grandfathers' family name before it was changed post marriage to the Queen and became Mountbatten and then ultimately Mountabtten- Windsor..

From wiki

Harry's full title is His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales,[SUP][172][/SUP] but he is familiarly known as Prince Harry.[SUP][fn 1][/SUP] He uses the name of the geographical area over which his father holds title—"Wales"—as a territorial suffix in lieu of a surname. Past precedent is that such surnames are dropped from usage in adulthood, after which either title alone or Mountbatten-Windsor is used when necessary.[SUP][173][/SUP]
Harry has continued to use Wales as his surname for military purposes and is known as Captain Harry Wales in such contexts.[SUP][174][/SUP] Traditionally, sons of the reigning monarch and of the Prince of Wales receive a dukedom immediately prior to marriage, the most recent being Prince William, who received the dukedom of Cambridge. After William's wedding, it was speculated by the press that Prince Harry had been promised the title of Duke of Sussex.

Just after Harry was born... I remember a psychic or astrologist saying that out of the 2 boys Harry would be the one who would be the one who would flout the rules .... and would be the one who would cause the most intrigue within the royal family.

I wonder if he will marry the American actress he's now introduced formally to the world as his girlfriend... usually that only happens when they are about to make a wedding announcement. It would mean that it would be the first non white member of the Royal family ...and the first divorcee into the family since Wallis Simpson...

Thank goodness Harry won't be put into the same position as Edward was, if he does marry Meghan markle ... she would become a Duchess, and not a Princess...

therefore The Queen is likely to bestow the title of Duke of Sussex onto Harry... and so Meghan would become the Duchess of Sussex...in the same way that Katherine Middleton became the Duchess of Cambridge when she married Prince William...and not Princess Katherine

Let;s get a few facts straight.

The Royal Family are, and have been since Victoria, Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.

However, KG V decided, because of anti-German feeling, to change their name to Windsor. This was entirely for political reasons.

The Queen married Philip Mountbatten, whose proper name is Battenberg but they changed their name for similar reasons.

The Queen is of generation where wives took the name of their husband, so she, and all her children , is a Battemberg, no matter what they call themselves..

Similarly Prince Charles and his progeny, no matter what they call themselves, are nothing to do with Wales, they are usurpers.

The true Prince of Wales, descendant of Llewellyn lives in a thee bedroom semi in Chester and went out to work all his life (other claimants are available).

The conventional stories are widely accepted, and have been for many years, but that don't make them facts!

Me, too, I like the guy. I noticed the other day he was hanging out with the Pres.
