I cannot abide....

I don't think it's less aggressive. I think it shows the person doesn't have self-confidence.
Oh! I must be thinking of something else.
I'm not aware of this new way of speaking.
Yeah, Guess that would be annoying!

For some reason, Uptalking doesn't bother me. I really think that it's done sometimes because people are wanting to feel like they have your attention when they're talking to you. I guess I can see validity in the argument that it shouldn't be used at a job interview or some similar situation since it might make a person sound unsure of themselves. And the professors in the drama dept. at the university where I worked were always trashing "Uptalking"; they had really uncomplimentary things to say about it: "it makes you sound ignorant, etc." Which I don't agree with.

But the "Vocal Fry" thing? OMG, I can't stand it and I shouldn't let it bother me, I know, I know. As one young woman put it, her male co-workers would pay more attention to what she said when she used the vocal fry; I guess it would startle these guys enough to get their attention on what she was saying rather than what she looked like. So I keep telling myself, "You can stand this; it's a feminist issue." And I think the Vocal Fry of recent years is maybe a descendant of what they used to call the "New York Honk" (IIRC) back in the 1970's. (Think Meryl Streep, William F. Buckley, Jr., etc.; kind of raspy; in fact, Dustin Hoffman said when he was a young man, he tried to talk like Buckley to impress his dates since he thought it made him sound upper-class and intelligent.) It was considered to be the way that upper-class New Yorkers spoke. Aw, human language, accents, and dialects: so interesting.

trouble is they are to the young... who copy just about everything the Kardashians do... anyone who is a multi-millionaire, and who have no visible talent, are always influencers to young people...

The Kardashian/jenner family have garnered more than 1.2 Billion followers..
Their followers can continue, they are responsible for the family probably having a billion dollars. I prefer to follow other things.

ars.

yes me too.. but I'm showing how they have become Role Models to so many people... and if they for example.. talk with the Vocal fry which some of them do... they're influencing 1.2 billion to potentially do the same

Nothing new here. I have noticed this type of speaking for the last couple of years. Everything these young people say becomes a question. Here is an example:

1. I would say: Nice day today.
2. The young generation would say: Nice day today?

Everything sounds like a question. They do this by raising their voice in the end. It sounds like everything is a question. Very annoying, if you ask me!

Rose isn't talking about incessant questions that are actually questions, she's talking about people who make statements that end like a question. You know, like: "Yesterday? I went to the store? and they have this new salad in the deli? Have you tried it?"

It's basically Valley-Girl talk but more widespread. And yeah, it's annoying.
Maybe so but I still think my way of thinking about it is funnier… MurMur😇
Sorry but I’m not familiar with everything people are complaining about.

The question thing. Today I? was thinking about? going to the store?

It makes it sound (to me) as if they're not sure if what they're saying will be accepted, and they're checking with you every other second.

If it's just a learned habit picked up from others, well, okay.

"Awoken" gets under my skin. I think it's because of PTSD. My third grade teacher Mrs. Findley would have beaten me with her stick had she heard me say that. Horrible woman.

what about ''Heigth''... that irritates me.. there's no TH on the end of Height... yet many people pronounce it that way...

.. and of course the eternal ''Axe''... what is soooo hard about saying ASK ?

The word gobsmacked.
Saying 'like' in every sentence.
The F word - some people find it quite normal but I wince.

Oh it feels good to just have a rant.
