I've known for a long time that I was old. My joints and memory and a lot of other things have been giving me hints. But yesterday when I was at a wedding it really helped me realize that I am really Old. Hubby and I were at a wedding. It was our Great Great nieces wedding. Sitting their I was watching everyone dance. Of course because of my bad back and knees I was dancing in my chair. Then I looked around and saw the Brides Great Grandmother,Grandmother and Mother. I realized that I had been at all their wedding too. To make myself feel better I laughed and remembered I was very young at the Great Grandmothers wedding and the Grandmothers wedding. That made me feel a little better and enjoyed the rest of the night. Of course by the time I got home exhausted my being old came back to me. When did you realize you were old or aren't you old too.

About the same time that I stopped working, I realized that I was totally irrelevant.

I quickly became just another invisible old person whose thoughts and opinions have little or no value/interest to the rest of the world.

At first, it bothered me until I learned to use this newly acquired superpower to my advantage.

I thought I was old when I turned 50. Then, when I turned 60 I figured 50 wasn't really that old. When I turned 70, I figured OK now I'm really old. Next year I will turn 80. I figure by then I will be officially elderly.

My friends and I often joke about becoming invisible. I suppose it's not really funny because it seems to be true. That's why I enjoy Senior Forums; other people posting here "get it."

Sassycakes--I don't feel so old yet, but then again I do avoid mirrors. (Haha, Trade!!)

Wow...that does sound old Sassy..gotta say..don't mean to be rude, but being a guest at the Great grandmothers' wedding. is enough to make anyone feel old...sorry...

I feel old when I have the pain.. I'm only in my early 60's but some days..I feel very old indeed..

I do get ignored by the young tho'.

Btw your Great, great Niece, is stunningly beautiful in fact they are a very good looking couple...

I don’t really feel old yet but seeing my parents after 7 or 8 years of not seeing them , made me realize how fast time can pass. It might not be the exact same thing but it was a turning point in my life. I finally grew up some mentally. Some . Let’s not push it. lol

Your relatives look stunning Sassycakes and if it’s any consolation, your posts read like they come from a young hearted women. I hope you had a grand time.

I said to my younger (relatively) self that I won't consider myself "old" until I reached 70. Hahaha Since reaching 70 I've changed my mind. I'm thinking now that somewhere closer to 90 is more like it. I hate being thought old, because I'm NOT! It just really bothers me.

64 here,Friday,I locked my keys in the car, fortunately my son works in an auto body shop close by and came with the lockout kit.
Watching grandson last evening and I put his chicken nuggets in the microwave at 9 minutes, had to open the windows and run the ceiling fan to clear out the place.
Went to $ general this morning for cat food etc. and left my money home, didn't realize until half my stuff was rung up.
And there's not even a full moon!

I don't consider myself very old but I do realize that the odometer has gone around a few times.....kinda like older cars I look at myself now as being a Classic. :)

I am 73 and can do just about everything I did when I was 50. The problem is it takes me so long to do those things. I spend all day doing something I could have knocked off in a few hours back then and of course I have my creaky knees to contend with.

Sassy, at least you can go to weddings.

My body really went downhill after hip replacement in 2010 at 72. Not what I had expected, but what I got...3 nasty complications and a very unstable body.

Today, I was thinking about how to plan my departure as I'd like to plan mine out and not end up being taken care of or in an assisted living or propped up and given a lot of drugs. Nope, not how I want it to end for me. I'd rather not be here than be in a position of not taking care of myself.

Never thought I'd be thinking this way, almost brings tears to my eyes...like right now. jam

If only I didn't fear a knee replacement surgery, rehab and rehab facility and then find it's not that great with the major job. UGH.

I spent 4.5 months in hospital/rehabs with knee staph infection over a year ago and the thought of another facility, good grief. The poor souls in those places.

Keep your minds folks...

When it takes me all night, to do what I use to do all night.

When end it takes me half an hour to fill my pill container.

When I go into the kitchen to get a drink of water, and forget what I went into the kitchen for.

When your significant other says, "wanna go upstairs and have some fun?" And you answer, "make up your mind, which one?"

When you finally have it all together but you can't remember where you put it.

Thank you, she is a sweetheart. Her Mom is just as sweet. I never thought when I turned 72yrs old it would come with so many aches and pains. I hope they don't get a lot worse when I turn 73 !LOL

72 is when I did the big CUT hip replacement and even though I had advancing OA for many years it all got worse....an MD on the radio who was gonna be a surgeon and then changed his mind when he went thru a failed shoulder surgery says: once the body is cut, arthritis sets in.

Believe it or not, my body is all worse since the surgery.

Oh what a beautiful wedding couple! I love her dress too.

I first realized I was getting old when I started noticing the weakness in my fingers and hands. There are some items I just have to wait till someone else is around to open them for me. I told my husband I might bring his chain saw in the house so I can open packages of batteries and such.

Also I felt kind of old when it dawned on me I was walking just like my older brother with his hip and knee joint problems. I guess it's genetic. I'll be 70 in a few months.

Back in the sixties, we used to guzzle beer and laugh at how old we’d be at the turn of the century.

‘Like we’d live so long’, we’d say

The sixties
‘twas yesterday....fifty years ago
