I Find the Ignore Button a Wonderful Feature of this Whole Forum

I've never used the ignore option. There are people who's post I simply skip over because I don't like their writing style, but when it comes to differing opinions I like to read others ideas.

I'm also fairly thick skinned, I can't imagine anything said by some radom stranger on the internet that's going to hurt my feelings.

I've never put anyone on ignore on a forum - but if I did I feel sure I'd want to know what 'the enemy' is prattling on about just from sheer nosiness or for the laugh factor - so I'd probably not log in and just be a lurker

Go back and read the first abusive thread. Seriously.

There are at least 2 parties spewing vile personal attacks, and none of them is me. That was before two more character assassination threads were started.

All of that behavior pushed far beyond what the Terms here permit, and none of that poor behavior was warranted or even provoked.

My post was a general one - about personal attacks and retaliation posts in general - not about you, not about any one thread.

was just making the general point that people reporting need to be sure their own behaviour is not the same as the one they are reporting - as admin usually treat both (or all) parties in such train wrecks equally.

or in other words: Be the change you want to see in others.

And I find that it's easiest of all to ignore them by putting them on Ignore. We all have what works best for ourselves.

What good is that? It's not likely they're going to change any at our age

I have used the IGNORE option several times when I was a relatively new poster.

Firstly, unless you tell someone that you have put them on ignore, they will not know that you have.

All that happens is that you are unable to see their posts unless you choose to.
This has allowed me to think twice before taking the bait and snapping back.
I always did look at the post, but was able to keep myself in check.
After a while I was OK to remove them completely from my ignore list yet still keep my cool.

These days I have no reason to put anyone on IGNORE and don't even think about doing so.

I've occasionally put people on ignore over my seven years here, but all were misogynists or provocateurs who were eventually banned by Matrix.

I haven't had anyone on ignore for a couple of years, perhaps longer.

I’ve started experimenting with the ignore feature and also the unwatch feature on individual threads.

I have to say that it has improved my enjoyment of SF.

Sometimes it’s not the person I want to ignore. It’s the thread. I would like to be able to hit then ignore button on threads that don’t interest me or I find too goofy.

I also use the dark background, it's so much easier on the eyes! Yes, the colored text is impossible with blue.. red is readable, but just.

If you highlight the invisible text, you can read it fine.
