I had a buying customer yesterday, but.....

She had seen my ad for a Japanese lusterware beverage set on Marketplace. When arriving, she saw other items in the house that weren't for sale and started handling them. Then she saw some Depression glass shaker sets that I am saving for another person as first refusal. She wanted them very badly, but I explained the situation. It seemed like she couldn't wrap her head around that not everything in the house was for sale. She was like a kid in a candy store.

She told me she was from the Philippines and she bought American antiques and shipped them overseas. I remarked that once she bought them, she could do anything she wanted with them. I guess I can't really be too miffed, she came as promised and paid cash and didn't argue over prices, and ended up spending $14. Besides the beverage set, she bought teacup and saucer sets and a brass basket.

I know two lovely Asian ladies, different countries. It‘s just part of their nature. Loving and happy and very straight forward. It still feels strange to me.

Or buying something for ten bucks that she knows she'll get 50 for on eBay? Always two sides, eh?
Like I said, once she buys, she can do anything she wants. My aim is to eliminate things I don't have much use for and to make a little money on the side. Around here, most people won't pay over a dollar for used items, so I am happy when I get a generous buyer.

This is what she bought:

Do you have an area like a garage where you could take only the things that you advertise for sale, Deb? Sounds as if this lady was in your main living area and touching your personal items. I'd have an issue with that... maybe not everyone would, though.
Same here.
No way I would allow a total stranger access to my living room, yet alone be touching my things.
For all I know, they could be casing the premises.

Another man just showed up and asked where my garage sale was. I said that it was NEXT week. He apologized and said he got mixed up on the dates, but I let him in to look at the items piled up in the living room area since he traveled so far in miserable weather. He bought some coins, so it wasn't a total waste for him or me.

That sounds like a line to me. 😉🤭😂

If he saw an ad for your sale he probably was an intentional early bird but a buyer is a buyer.
