I had a car accident 3 years ago and ended up with multiple blood clots in my Lungs

Every now and then I would taste blood when I coughed.
I was given blood thinners and told that I would need to take these for months until the clots cleared.
I think I stopped taking them after a month and there was no lasting ill effects.
With my broken ankle of 6 weeks ago I was also given blood thinners, subcutaneously self injected daily for 6 weeks.
Once again, when coughing I taste blood periodically.
I wonder if that means I have blood clots in my lungs again?

Was it painful? I had a suspected blood clot some years ago and it hurt like hell to breathe. I spent 6 months on warfarin and now take 100mg of aspirin daily.

As Aunt Bea wrote, see your GP for answers. Clots anywhere in the body are dangerous but from the lungs they can travel directly to the heart.

Not painful. I thought taking blood thinners was meant to stop blood clots from forming.
Might see the doctor tomorrow.

I think it has to do with my broken ankle and my immobility for the past 6 weeks.
Though I would have thought the blood thinners would have prevented clots from forming.
Blood thinners don't always work for prevention. I had several blood clots in my leg (thrombosis, but not deep vein) from chemo. They went away after I spent a lot of time with my feet elevated above my heart.

So, please go to your doctor.

Warfarin is injected into the belly.
You end up with a lovely set of bruises across your abdomen
No. Warfarin is definitely available in pill form. I'm kind of outraged over this. I never took something as strong as Warfarin, but have been on blood thinners for years. I might have asked the hospital why I couldn't take pills. Liver? do you think? Maybe injections are less taxing on the liver?

I took warfarin in pill form, my eye started bleeding where my lens was attached from cataract surgery. Scared me. Stopped taking blood thinners and I refuse to take Them. Having a bloody eye bothers me a lot.

The injections were in the initial phase while they were working out the correct dose for me. They kept weighing me too. After that I was on tablets but had to have regular blood tests to check liver function. After the 6 months I was ever so pleased to ditch the medication.

You might have what I have, which shows in my DNA - that I don't need a lot of warfarin for it to go a long way. Same thing with coffee. I'm a slow metabolizer. My mom when she takes a thinner, she also bleeds from her ears, etc. It really is scary.
