I Hate Gardening -- Do you?

The one thing I miss the most about selling our home, is the large vegetable garden I had there. I truly enjoyed planting and caring for it.
Every Spring I had high expectations …. they usually came in abundance as the weather warmed. .. a varierty of vegetables, better than store bought.

Probably this passion for gardening came from the memories of growing up on a farm. … orchards, fruit trees and acres of vegetables.

There's little joy in 'gardening' here, more like grooming 2-1/2 acres of weeds. Can't have any ornamental plants, the varmints will eat them.

Edit: I have a small collection of plants near a window, it's as good as it gets.

Oh my God! You bought the hummingbird off of Debodun and she actually mailed it to you.😱😱😱 ! How did that happen?

There, I said it. It took me two hours to get the little weeds out from between the paving stones in my back garden. My nails are filthy and broken. Now the hydrangeas look droopy. Do I have to dead head them? Who the heck knows? We never sit out there because it's hotter than a furnace most of the time. I never know what to do and I don't want to do it when it has to be done.

I know this is sacrilege to many SFers but perhaps there is someone out there who shares my sentiments.
I completely share your sentiments. I hate being outside with mosquitoes and bees (I've been stung 8 times in my life) and hot and sweaty. Dirty like you said. I now live in an apartment so don't even have to feel guilty.

Gardening has never been something I've done. I've tried to keep some plants through the years, but if I have any natural talent in this area at all, it's in killing them.

That said - I do have one single plant right now, and I've had it for years. It was a gift from someone at work, and I assumed it would die like everything else in good time. Not so! It's still going. I should re-pot it. I don't know what kind of plant it is, but it barely ever flowers, and when it does it's a weedy little flower. So I guess I'm stuck with it. :D

I hate it... but it's a neceessary evil. I have a nice garden..I grow a few flowers in pots, beause I cannot stand all that dead heading, re-planting ''painting the forth road bridge'' kind of carry on, in that as soon you've finished painting one end you have to start again on the other, planting, weeding, deadheading, planting weeding, covering up for frost, sarying with insect repellent, .. watering, planting ...weeding..... none of that type of gardening appeals to me.. ... but 90 % of my garden are shrubs, trees, and hedges...

In the last year I've employed a local gardener ( actually he's a tree surgeon ).. who comes and cuts back and tops all the hedges... and if the grass needs mowing when he comes he does that too... but otherwise I do all the mowing, I don't mind it.. don't love it... but I do it beause I want all my lawns and gardens looking nice..

Oh I forgot , I do have my roses on trellises out front, but I clip them back regularly and that's all they seem to need..

There is no doubt in my mind that the English have a natural gift and affinity for gardening.

Painting - interior painting - is one of my favorite things to do.
Love seeing a room transformed!
I have gotten very, very good at cutting in... no tape needed!
Oh that's why I've stopped doing my own painting... my husband was an excellent painter... but me.. I can't cut in properly.... so I'm going to have to pay someone next time...( I still do my own woodwork tho' )

I like my beds crowded so theres not a lot of weeding.
But that means theres usually moving and transplanting perennials in the spring.
I give some of the extras away and some goes on the fence row to duke it out with the weeds and the Rose of Sharons.
I enjoy my flower beds but I dont enjoy the heat. Once it gets hot things slow down a lot till it cools off.

Im partial to "yard art". That kinda leaves me out of condo living. For example I have a huge boat anchor in the side yard.
I dont have a boat. The husband brought it home one day because he thought I might like it. :D
Im also one of the crazies that happen to like weeds.
Like Milkweed, Ironweed , Goldenrod, Queen Annes Lace, and Joe Pye Weed. :D

I always wear gloves. Saves the nails. Also poison ivy likes to lurk under stuff and Im allergic.
Nothing is more aggravating than being in the weed zone and having a big piece of poison ivy come whipping out and smack you.
This usually means I have to go in the house and scrub down like a surgeon.

No one uses it in the amounts large enough to cause cancer.

Judicious use is perfectly fine!
I agree. I use a pump sprayer. I dont get close enough to snort it. I use Roundup 365 so I only need to do it once a season.

I plant my Tomatoes and pickles every spring. Several varieties. I like the lil tomato's the most.
It's not about quantity, the thought's, no chemicals are put into the planting area. My place of peace!
