I just cancelled all my Christmas plans

@OldFeller and @MrPants its an over the counter test for Influenza A, influenza B, and Covid. Available at any Grocery store pharmacy or local Drug store. Various brands, two tests to a pack. This is a Binax test I think. Walgreens carries its own brand. I think CVS does too.
When I saw that test I googled the cost. Really pricey in Canada. I’ll ask at the drug store.

Also, the talk of Gatorade has reminded me to get some to store away for emergencies like this.

This Super flu epidemic has hit the Uk apparently , with a big stick. Last week it was reported that 2,500 patients were being admitted to hospital every day suffering from this new strain of Flu....

They're telling people to start wearing masks again ...

I've had fu, and pneumonia.... in the past I wouldn't wish either on anyone....hope you get through this before too long (((Ronni)))

Well Ronni, I think this is a horrible thing to happen to you, especially at Christmas. This is why I don't believe in Karma - bad things happen to good people. That's like the opposite of karma.

I hope you feel better soon. Just keep reminding yourself that you are on the right side of the grass, instead of getting depressed about it. And if you feel sicker and sicker, see a doctor. I think they have some TamiFlu or something to medicate the flu with, but you have to take it early on. At least that what I've been told.

So sorry @Ronni ! Hope you feel better very soon.

So sorry, Ronni. What rotten timing.

I'll add to the advice here to drink lots of liquids and sit up from time to time so you don't get pneumonia. An old doctor of mine made all his patients drink about a gallon of hot liquid. "Hot," being best since it turns your tummy into an internal hot-water bottle, pushing up against your lungs.

Doctor: Go home and drinking a glass of orange juice after a hot bath.
Doctor that night on the phone: Did the orange juice help?
Patient: I don't know I haven't finished drinking the hot bath yet.

I bought 2 boxes, yes they are pricey but for us, well worth the cost.
All 3 grandkids are just getting over the flu and now our daughter has it.

I have to admit I got the flu as well, despite taking the flu vaccine. It's kicking my azz, now on day 4, at least the severe headaches have subsided, but there are other symptoms right in line to make sure the misery index doesn't drop that much. This flu is going to push many elderly to their physical limits and will cause many deaths, it's that bad.

I had telly health appointments scheduled w/in 24 hours and then 36 hours after onset of symptoms, but cancelled both because I thought it was "just a cold" well, those 2 decisions have cost me much suffering and will result in a longer, slower recovery.

Treatment is available if c19(Paxlovid) and the flu(Tamiflu) are confirmed early so having the tests on hand is essential. If one shops AMZN carefully you can buy the 3-1 tests for as little as US$7.00 each. I just bought a couple because winter is just starting and the height of tourist season is upon us. I believe it's essential for those that live alone and are already feeble to get and use these tests as soon as you feel that scratchy throat, or whatever your personal first indication of cold symptoms are.

Everybody knows how to avoid airborne infections so I'll stop here.
