I just think it's wonderful that I was just told

by the Senior Job services in our State Capitol that I am "welcome" to move to any city I want and see if the employment opportunities are better for me there, isn't that nice?

Also, before I was told that, I explained I have no income, am facing homelessness in 2 weeks, but hey, they were just so happy to tell me I could move where I wanted, but no, they couldn't tell me if my chances would be better there, or whether I could get this "subsidized" employment through the employment department. I tell you, I'm at my wits end making calls to these people in their cushy jobs with evidently, no concept of what it is like to be down and out at 61 years old. I should just go back to school, and get loans from the gov. I mean hell, if they're going to keep passing money out, why shouldn't I get some:(

I'm sorry, I'm in tears now, mad as hell. I've made 6 phonecalls just this a.m. and every one was a dead-end. But the one I made yesterday has an opening, the home-less shelter. happy trails.

that's hard news nwlady. jobs today are at a premium. I don't know, of course what qualifications you have. you can try career builders

also don't forget to check out temp services. many CO's still hire thru these services. CO's don't have to hire and provide benefits. just dial and they send one over. when i worked we hired a lot. and some when they proved their value were hired on by my CO permanent. worth a look see

NWLady, I am so sorry to hear of your situation. Is there any aid you can qualify for while finding work?

Thanks KC, I'm signed with 3 here in town, one is Express who I have done a lot of work for, and although I continue to call to check, they haven't sent me out even to clean a toilet. You are right though, people are getting jobs, I'm just not one of them.

I tried everything I could find, again, this a.m. Some of the numbers I was given were the same places I'd been, so I tried again. I'm done here, just too depressing to even talk about.

I do thank you both, and anyone the ends up replying, just need to get off here,

Denise

where do you live if i may ask ???

So you know for sure you have to move? I thought you wouldn't know until the landlord gets there. Maybe you should contact him and ask if you can stay as a caretaker/housekeeper for a few months until you get your SS.
You've tried everything else so what can it hurt?

His wife is not going to let me stay here for free Kaya, I just figure that. She never wanted renters in the first place, let alone a free-loader, which is how she'll no doubt see me.

ok, I just want to say, that I see myself as a free-loader, yes, I help where I can, no one else calls me that, but I just feel as if I am taking advantage of someone's kindness. Just because they say I can stay, does that make it right for me to?

I love your new avatar SB, did you shoot that? I am just tired today, so many turn-downs for jobs, then this a.m. exploring all these things that sounded like I could get more help in finding a job. This site sounded as if "yes" seniors get put in "at least" part-time jobs, but this was Experience Works, which is called something else up in Salem. So I was right back to where I started. So I called the guy that knows me because I've bugged him so many times in the last 6 months, and got his voicemail again. Ok, so asked him to call. This is a subsidized program to help people get into jobs.
Especially those that have broken-work-history, and are seniors.

Anyway, this too shall pass right.

I would at least ASK the landlord, Denise... you might even ask if there is any other kind of work you could do for them... Maybe the answer will still be no -- like you think it will be... But sometimes life surprises you! Good luck.

I've been thinking about it Bettyann, thanks for your thoughts, I will talk to the son and daughter (they are managing until dad & mom return on the 7th). Denise;)

Doesn't hurt to ask. And you wouldn't be freeloading if you are watering the lawn, mowing the grass, cleaning the house, doing the laundry, cooking, etc.
The worst they can say is no. And if they do, that is one door shut with no "what if's" haunting you. I understand your sister said you could live with her? Then you do have a place to go. Might not be pleasant, but at least its a roof and only temporary until you get your SS.

Did they give you a written notice? 30 Days Notice? If not...then...well...you can stay there legally until they do. Period. No ands ifs or buts. But...that means you will be staying somewhere that you are not wanted and that I think would bug you. Still..the law is the law. It has to be IN WRITING.

Maybe I'll have some leverage, wish me luck on the job I just applied for. I'd be working from home as a customer service/call-center. I have what it takes, let's see if they bite. Just sent my resume & app, Denise

PS If that doesn't work, I have another place to try as well, and, a whole list of other companies that hire people to work for home taking calls. Just found it today!

PS I may not have seen it if KC hadn't sent me a link, thanks KC;) See, it can pay to whine:playful: (nah, I hate be a wiener, weiner, I mean whiner)

Good luck on the job. Someone else I used to pal around with does that...work from home on the pc. She is surviving, last I heard, so you will too.

Oh wow, just got a call to do a 7 day pet-sitting job for the same neighbors!! They payed me good, so for 7 days, I'll make some dough! Beautiful house, and the dog is a lover, and the kitty!;) Yeehaw, that's some good mojo Georgia!! This will add to my references as a house-sitter, pet-sitter which I LOVE doing! Like my own biz!! Thanks to all of you for your prayers, and thoughts for me:) Denise PS this next Monday- the 6th, and I will also be talking to my landlords, about staying here longer. It's rumored the wife is not a stay at home wife, and she likes having a housekeeper, but not a cook as they prefer restaurants. We'll see;)

Good for you!! Hmmmm, maybe the wife would rather eat at home if she had a live-in cook and housekeeper-not to mention grocery shopper,dishwasher-in other words,a wife :)

LOL! Well, she works for the government, and is transferring back to this area, as far as I know. She has been working in Korea. I still doubt that they are going to want people living here, but it might be a possibility. It would only be temporary for me until December or until an apartment opens up for me. But I know things can change, I may find that perm job, so I can do a bit better than just SS, I am hoping for that more than anything;)

Thanks Mrs. R:) I appreciate your congrats!! Denise
