I keep wondering if I should get chickens, who lives in a suburb and has chickens?

Our neighbor has chickens. The are cluck, cluck, cluck all the time. We dont eat many eggs, but I could feed them to the dog. We have a lot of hungry insects in the garden and the chickens would eat them. If we wanted an egg now and then we would them available.

Since we are in a suburb, we are allowed three chickens for eggs-no roosters. We can’t really go anywhere so we are home. Should we get chickens? Are they are to care for?

Well, we have Barney the rooster ... down the street ...... [so named by the kids] I'm told he was a gift? pet ? don't know the whole story. I just wish they would buy him a wrist watch....... :cautious:
😂

I'd have them if I could because I think they are fascinating and I loved them when grandparents had them. I loved finding warm eggs in their nests. The memories of Grandpa chopping their heads off wasn't so great though😧 The rooster was mean and noisy, but he did his job well, as Grandpa had a little shed for hatching the eggs. Fascinating!!
I've never had fried chicken as good as Grandma's. I know now it was because she made it the same day it was killed.

Well, I sure won’t be chopping off any heads. 😱

Aneeda72 I believe chicken manure is good for tomato plants because it has some nitrogen in it. No brainer

Absolutely... the grab the head and while running twist and heave method works better. You're further from the blood stream. ;)
My Grandma did that in the "old" country. She'd wring their necks and twist their heads off with her bare hands.
My mother came home from school one day and there was a fish swimming in the bathtub! That night's dinner.

My mom couldn't eat eggs It's odd, she could use them in cakes, etc. This stems when my grandfather beheaded her favorite chicken, It ran around and got out of the yard. She had to go get it. She was pretty traumatized by the situation.

Why complicate your life!
