I Like Sardines

I love sardines, and they are sooo good for you too, and sooo cheap. I pay 79cents each for a tin of lightly smoked sardines in oil. I will have them with small crackers and some white wine and a bit of cheese and fruit. I buy 20 tins at a time and get them discounted to about 50cents each. Makes for a good healthy lunch.

I buy them buy the pack at Costco, around 10 or 12, forget how much I paid last time. I only like the skinless and boneless in olive oil. We eat the with crackers, cheese, artichoke hearts, etc. for a light dinner. They keep a long time too, good emergency food for the pantry.

Five days/week... tin of sardines and sleeve of crackers for lunch. Alternate each day between packed in Louisiana Hot Sauce and packed in Mustard. Used to have a source for them packed in jalepenos. That source dried up. I won't eat fish... hate it. I don't really enjoy any seafood. Will occasionally let the wife stir up some tuna salad for sandwiches, but not more than once/month. So... why do I enjoy the sardines??? Sheesh!!!

Now I've got to buy some and try them. I have never eaten sardines as I always thought that eating the whole fish is gross. :D I'm not that crazy about fish since I choked on a catfish bone when I was little. I do enjoy a good fish fry though.

Sounds like Rodney Dangerfield.

God loves those who eat sardines.

I have to watch for low sodium preparred foods, but I'll put sardines on the shopping list.

Got to have them boneless and skinless but got to pay a premium price for them, $1.69 per pop...

I can honestly say I have NEVER eaten a sardine... Always reminded me of eating goldfish... bleh... Besides.. do they still have their guts in them? That is disgusting..

We used to get tiny ones when I was a kid, which we mashed up to pate consistency making them more palatable. Last time I tried they were bigger and fatter and I really found them gross. Too bad because I understand they are extremely healthy.

My father used to like his pickled herring and rye bread and I ate it a few times, since it was sour and garlicky. Maybe sardines are something you need to flavour up and get down with a shot of good vodka.

I do like tiny black caviar though, salty and yummy on hard boiled eggs. With vodka of course.

Yeah, that's what I thought, too. I used to like them but they seem different now---too big. I figured it was just me remembering things wrong.

I love pickled herring! We have it every New Years Eve.. it's a tradition. I like caviar also.. BUT whole fishies?... no.. not for me.. Someone told me that they still had bones and guts in them... that means eating fish poo... seriously?

We will buy a can or two of Sardines in Veggie Oil sometimes. Wife doesn't eat them, but I do. No big deal cutting it open, removing the guts and eating the rest with Saltine crackers. I also love packages of Imitation Crab Snacks/Sticks. Just got a 2-for-1 at local store. Wife will eat them sometimes, but I love eating them!

We also cook/eat Bacon Wrapped Salmon. With some good wine and rice........nice meal.

We aren't complete "Junk-Food Junkies"........LOL

Excellent party fun as a teenager (for those not familiar with the game, you and another person, in those days usually a member of the opposite sex) squeezed into the smallest space you could find!). Everyone was a winner.

As for the fish, I have them about once a week, a dozen tins in the cupboard as I type.

I like sardines. I prefer the tiny King Oscar brand but they are expensive. The yellow stuff they call mustard sauce is gross. I buy the sardines in oil and add my own mustard or hot sauce. With crackers, cheese and pickles they make a good snack.
