So it's been a few days of me trying to figure out how this site works or doesn't work for me. Finding a lot of very old threads to read through. As a newby I guess I would like to see more current subjects posted. In the meantime I thought this picture would stir up some interest... this picture is of Multnomah Falls about 1 hour east of Portland, Oregon along the Columbia River (God's country) hee hee hee. What is the biggest tourist attraction near you?
 

That's a beautiful picture of the waterfall, hiraeth...are you in Portland?..or how far is that waterfall from you?


I'm in the rural edge of London England... The biggest tourist attraction near me is too long to list, but we'll start with Buckingham Palace.... :D
 
Austin, TX. The State Capitol draws thousands, each year. Very impressive. Unfortunately, the UT Tower is also here, and it stands as a reminder of one of the first mass shootings to get TV coverage, in the "modern" age.
 
I live in a Maryland suburb of DC. Everyone is pretty familiar with DC, but just a few miles away, Maryland is surprisingly lovely in an old-fashioned,
rural way.

hollydolly, I am about 15 miles south of Portland so the waterfall is about 1-1/2 hrs from home... of course that depends on traffic. I've always dreamed of traveling to Europe touring museums and churches! So much history there.
 
Giantsfan1954, my husband (before he died) and I always talked about riding his harley up through that part of the country. I hear the color in the fall is absolutely gorgeous!
 
debbie in seattle, hi neighbor! I have spent about 10 years in Tacoma and after that around 25 years or so in the Portland area. So, how bad is that traffic in Seattle? It's really getting bad here and Oregon is aggressively talking about tolling the I-5 and 205 freeways between the Columbia river and south to where I live to help out the congestion... yeah right!
 
Gary O', what a beautiful place... Crater Lake is loved by all here in Oregon! I was lucky enough to stay in the lodge on one vacation, quaint place. Next time I go there I would like to be near the water.
 
Sunny, your picture reminds me of "home"... I hope you get to play there once in a while. Hopefully as a society we don't wipe out all farmland in the haste to become "citified" if you know what I mean.
 
ronaldj, my guess is that you call home Michigan? I don't know anything about your part of the country except you are surrounded by water. Is it beautiful? Flat? Hilly? Any farmland left?
 
treeguy64, Texas is a very big state... longhorns and cowboys if I remember right? Do you get to play in the water at all along that big Gulf of Mexico? My biggest memory of Texas would be the assignation of JF Kennedy.
 
jujube, Disney World... do you love it? I've only been to Disneyland in California... it was fun but can't say I want to go back. If I traveled to Florida you would see me in the warm Keys!

Furryanimal, very beautiful! Do you farm? Are your winters hard? This past year I have researched my dad's side of family which has led me to the early 1700's in Dumfries, Scotland. Also found a half brother to my father which my family did not know about and my father is not alive to ask. So many questions...

I do enjoy the Magic Kingdom and the other Disney parks when I attend. I absolutely refuse to pay that price to get in, but I will go when my relative who works there gets me in for free. I'm down to only one relative working there now, down from three, so it doesn't happen often. My favorite park is Epcot.

I'm with you, I'd rather be vacationing in the Keys. The Panhandle beaches are wonderful, too....white sugar sand and emerald water.
 
Hi hiraeth, and welcome to the forums.. :)

I'm just South of you in Northern California.
I'd say the biggest tourist attraction we have around here is a volcano, Mt. Lassen.
Along with the Mt. Lassen National Park they have there.

Last series of eruptions where from 1914-1917.

You know on second thought, maybe having a volcano around might keep the tourists away.. :confused:
