I Love Closed Caption

I enjoy it because I can't hear so good but I can read really fast...but some things definitely get lost in translation

Being hearing impaired has its advantage, you don't have to listen to all that crap on TV by simply moving your eyes off the screen.I've been hearing impaired since the age of 3 and have become quite an expert at speech reading, so be careful what you say out there cause I can "read" you 50 feet away.

I use closed captions even though my hearing is excellent. Very often, dialogue gets muffled or drowned out by music. And it's particularly good when people are speaking with an unfamiliar accent.

Is there a program that allows captions on all videos? Even though there are supposedly regulations that require every service, like Netflix, to provide them I do not find it true. I hate that I am unable to double/triple task with captioning, though ;) My son jokingly told me the other day that I do not actually enjoy foreign films...I just watch them because they always have closed captioning. Perhaps he is correct. :D

Even though your son was joking, I for one am elated that I can watch movies in other languages and cultures. It has opened up a whole new venue for me. It has saved our marriage, I honestly believe my wife is endowed with super hearing powers. I keep pointing out that the sound meter goes to 100 and they wouldn't put it that high unless you need it. As for liking foreign movies one I really enjoyed and recommend to others is 'Departures' (a Japanese production that won 'Best Foreign Film' for 2009). Very moving and helped me move on from my father's passing. I use closed captioning any time it's available or I can enable it on our HDTV settings. Great for war movies muffles the sound of battle.

Actually, despite my son's teasing, I feel the same, Perdition. The world I always chose in books has now been opened visually. I shall have to watch "Departures". I find a lot of the Korean films really excellent. Especially their visual effects. Although I keep closed captioning on, it just does not work with some videos/movies. I have to just guess what is being said.

I use closed captioning when people are speaking fast. Sometimes the CC is too fast on some programs, though. I don't have a hearing problem...yet.

I wear a hearing aid and so does my wife but she often still can't follow a program because she misses so much. I put the captions on for her even though they insist in putting them right in the middle of the screen often. I put up with it so she can enjoy the program too but when it comes to football, which we both love, the captions go OFF. Who needs the talking head dialog when you can see the action.

Nona, mine are disc, I can not stream movies with my satellite service, so I'm unable to watch if they do not come with cc, most all the disc are cc, but once in awhile I will get one that is not.

Thank you, Jackie. I was so hoping that it was something I could just click and get cc on streaming  Netflix just added Philomena. Watched it, missing half of what was being said. Will try to watch it several more times and see if I can catch more. Sad, yet wonderful depiction on the plight of unwed mothers and the countless babies sold/adopted in the late 40's and early 50's.

Yes, I watched that movie, it is excellant.

That's exactly what I do and the caption at times block the other teams scores at the bottom of the screen.
