I,m beginning to have serious thoughts of assisted living

living......what brought these thoughts to forefront today is the condition of my low
back among other things....I've endured 3 surgeries on my low back, due to overwork and so on....so needless to say it was in bad condition years ago...today there are times that I feel as if I'm going to become paralyzed due to the pain and
lack of mobility,,,,,,that is how i feel today, who knows what will tomorrow bring...but
it is damn painful today, on top of PITA problems....oh and an earache left side, tried
to take a pic of my ear to see if there is a boil or whatever, you think I can operate
that stupid phone cam???!!! think again...ah well,,,,,hell with it,,,,,,,,:mad::cool::devilish:

It might be nice to put your feet up and let someone else do the cooking and cleaning.

Oh my goodness I would be in one of those expensive retirement apartments now if I could afford it. These places usually give people interested in moving in, a free lunch, and I strongly suggest taking advantage of that because it gives a person a chance to meet a possible friend, hear from others how they like living there, and to see what kind of meals are served.

There can be many advantages to making that move if one can afford a retirement community. Many of us are losing our hearing and vision and many of those places give people rides. That is important if we can't drive. The rides could be rides to grocery stores, or fun trips out of town.

There should be an exercise program and activities like making simple Christmas decorations or cards. All of the activities are opportunities to make friends.

Independent retirement living is more affordable than assisted living and includes weekly apartment cleaning, all meals, TV and Internet connections. The drawback is you have to pay extra for personal health needs and may have to find your own service provider. If you have serious health needs that require assistance you may have to move to Assisted living and wow is that expensive! Some people are paying more monthly for assisted living than my entire yearly income.

hawkie I think you need to get into an assisted living place, because you're clearly not well enough to be alone.

Hopefully your social worker will have some ideas. In the meantime.. try looking sideways onto a mirror...with the bad ear, and then taking a photo of the mirror, and then enlarging the photo...on your phone or computer
 
You can see in your ears with 2 mirrors Hawkdon. Stand in front of the bathrooms and hold a smaller mirror up to your ear area and adjust it.

Instead of those large,expensive, razzle-dazzle places..
Check if there's small, licnsed private
place that has few patients.
Also, there's a National organization..Visiting Angels..Senior In-Home care...providing
Compassionate and life-changing in home care

Do an honest assessment of your assets. Look at geographic locations such as close to family. Make an appoint with a social worked, department of the aging or whatever it is called in MO. Keep detailed notes. Schedule an initial consult with an elder attorney. Start touring homes. Get details not just the glossy brochure!
One thing I learned - will the facility move a resident from self pay to Medicaid?
Get on every Medicaid waiting list.

Don,

If you have a Social Worker assigned to you
let them do the assessment and the legwork to find out what is available based on your income/assets.

The Social Worker should be able to help enroll you in Medicaid if and when the time comes.

They have a Medicare/Medicaid program available in this area called PACE that allows people to remain in their homes with managed care. Check to see if it is available in your area. It is expensive unless/until you are approved for Medicaid.

Put your safety and comfort ahead of any effort to conserve your savings or to avoid enrolling in Medicaid.

Put yourself first and use whatever is available to you!
