18 years ago, we bought a new mattress for our bed. It was a very traditional one with pocket springs and lambswool stuffing, but it needed to be turned over side to side and top to bottom every few months. Initially, this was no problem although the mattress was VERY heavy. There was an expected life of around 20 years, and until recently, the mattress provided a very comfortable nights sleep. Now, turning the mattress regularly is necessary to maintain the comfort and support and for two 70+ year olds, this is a struggle. We've just turned it and hopefully it will last till we get a new one.
There are so many different types now so we'll visit a few furniture shops to see what's available. As the saying goes, you need a good bed and a good pair of shoes - if you're not one, you're in the other.
