I Need a Wife...

I'm sure you other caregivers know the feeling. I get home at maybe 10pm from work. My daughter is up for the school bus early so she is asleep. Grown son is out with friends or still at work himself. Hubby is at work till the wee hours, we see each other sleeping sometimes. The dogs refuse to eat unless I prepare it. In the door tired and first task is feed the pups.

The dishes, the Halloween decorations, a washload of towels nevermind my pants for work tomorrow...catching up on phone messages, email messages, writing a simple shopping list for hubby and daughter, oh scrubbing the dining room floor, getting the crap out from under the leaky radiators, do I have gas in my car for the next day or three?

Have the inside plants been watered recently? Feed the Koi fish? Oh the cat food bowl...the rat food needs to be made before I go upstairs. The washer is walking again. I forgot my Rx for the day and no time to feed myself. Somebody call my oldest boy to find a place for Thanksgiving. Yup I need a wife.

I used to dream of having a Fijian house boy with big feet and a cheery grin.
Either that I would have been OK with hubby having a second wife, as long as I could be boss wife.

You seem to have made a rod for your own back!

My wife would never have stayed in such a situation, and if my son didn't earn his keep he didn't get any!

I really like that idea! I have the title Boss Wife and she does litter boxes and appointment keeping. Oh and if she could do facials and pedicures I would treat her very well indeed...

Jeez, I meant it in a jokey 1950's manner. Just coming home from work and hubby or kids have food made and I'm quite happy. I guess nowadays it would be "personal assistant". Someone to keep track of appointments, clean the nasty things like litter boxes and rat bedding...someone who knows three cups of Café Bustela gets you alive in the morning and always have it in the pantry.

I'm saying I wish I had an assistant that could cover everything I run out of time for:eek:nthego:

"I wish I had an assistant that could cover everything I run out of time for"

That's the trouble. Too many people (which includes some wives!) see a wife as an assistant rather than an equal partner!
