I Need Motivation to Diet Right

So true! Different things motivate different people.
I know you eat a meat heavy diet for your health problems, just know you look great in your picture so it must be the right thing for you. Does not appear you have any issues following the way of eating you have to do. You might be judged by some but not me. You have learned what you body will tolerate and adapted. Most of us can't wrap our minds around it. We continue to eat things that make us feel bad. Happens to me way to often but still I don't learn.

I have a calorie counting and exercise app on my phone. I initially lost weight gradually over a few years but now I am stuck and still trying to lose more weight. My husband and I did this together after retiring. I know it will be important to lose a bit more weight as I get older and have more mobility issues. I am thinking of joining a recreation centre to participate in the swimming a few times a week. You need to find what motivates you.

Chet's method helped her lose 65 pounds within a year, and she kept it off, too. But if I was on a quest to lose weight, there's no way this would work for me. I wouldn't be able to stick with it.
What's wrong with you, then?

Oh, oops, nothing's wrong with you! Everyone is just different, in many things, as you said! :giggle::geek::LOL::ROFLMAO::giggle::love:

Therefore; Anyone reading this thread, can choose from all of our wise suggestions,🤓
which idea they'd like to try for themselves.
😀
That's one of the benefits of participating in a forum like ours!(y)☺️🤩🥳

I Need Motivation to Diet Right
What do you suggest?

A couple things: "portion control"...eat smaller portions. Don't have to torture or punish yourself. Reward yourself, pat yourself on the back for taking positive action. Remember, that if you don't make your daily goal, every day is a new beginning.
...and, weight control is not a sprint, it is a marathon.

Thank you 💗 I appreciate that a lot!!

I feel the same worry over mobility issues. I want to be able to get around well. My Father was slim, never had a weight issue. He was very robust and got around well. He did tell me about arthritic problems he had still. He lived to be 82.

I wish I could help, I struggle with it too! I have already quit smoking, so I can't stop eating right now. I have lost weight by just adding more veggies and fruit, cut way back on chips and junk, I still have those things but I am more mindful about it. The best thing in my mind is to pay attention, put forth the effort to eat healthy but realize sometimes you are going to have days you will want the wrong thing.

Also, move more, just walking, I may go to the mall, walk, check out the sales, I mostly don't find anything but I get a lot of walking in. I have always enjoyed diet sodas but I have found I can have a glass of soda when I get up and then switch to ice water. It makes a difference in how I feel and how my clothes fit. I also do not have to get up often when I am sleeping to pee. The doctor told me that drinking soda contributes to that issue. If we just make small changes each day it will make a difference. I think if we do the smart things we will lose weight slowly but it will more than likely be a permanent loss, instead of losing and gaining it back. I know just where you are, it is hard but we can do it, a little at a time.
Thank you @Blessed ❤️ I very much all you had to say and points you made. I understand too.

Ruthanne is already pretty. Sometimes vanity motivates better than health. It does for me sometimes.
I got over vanity a long time ago. I chose happiness over appearance these days. Have not been able to keep grey hair and wrinkles away. Those things mean crap to me. I try to just enjoy each day, if people don't like the fact that I have aged, not my problem, I accept those changes when others walk around looking silly. Nothing worse than an older lady with to much make up, dyed hair with extensions, clothes meant for a girl in there 20's.

Spending a couple of hours putting spackle on their face, making sure there is not a hair out of place. Pouring their bodies into spanx and clothing that makes them uncomfortable. Who do they think they are fooling? I know it is hard for women that were knockouts when they were younger, they have a much harder time adapting to their older years. I am glad I was just average, no one to prove anything too!

Blessed please quit smoking right now. COPD is the worst problem I have ever had , frankly I keep hoping I will die from a stroke, heart attack, in my sleep, etc! Just not with an inability to breathe!

OOPS, sorry I misread that.

Read my post again, I have quit, about 19 months ago, it is still hard sometimes but I am determined not to even smoke one every again!!

You are doing it well. I wish I had quit back 30-40 years ago.
Well I would say we both wish we had never started. Young, stupid, trying to fit in and then it became a life long curse. I did quit after the first Cat Scan that showed a potential problem, emphysema. So funny, I was not quit but a week and the horrible smoker cough was gone. I know longer had people looking at me during covid, being afraid, stepping back even further. I have not had covid, a cold, bronchitis since I quit. Yes, I have been vaxed and boosted, I took my flu shot as well. I still am shocked, I have not a cold or any respiratory illness since I quit smoking. For all you reading, you will be surprised how much better you will feel once you quit.

I have always had the best results when I have an external motivation. What I mean is a motivator that is not directly food related. Just wanting to lose weight because you think it is good for your health is not external.

My original motivation 20 years ago when I finally decided to do something was to run the Chicago marathon. In the course of training I dropped 40 pounds. I didn't make it as I pulled a muscle 2 weeks before the race.

My current motivation to stay trim is wardrobe related. I like dressing well and have a modest investment in suits, so I keep the weight in check in order to keep in my clothes.

If you don't like strict diets, try intermittent fasting. This way is very effective for me. Besides, there is no need to limit or exclude any food from your nutrition.
A real good suggestion. I did it with breakfest at 8 a.m. and lunch at 1 p.m. Nothing else and at least 5 days a week. It worked quite well, but takes time. And it doesn't work for everyone. It's worth a try.
