I No Longer Snowbird

I was a snowbird for 7 years, Milwaukee and Fort Myers.
Friends and family were quite surprised when I sold my FM home.
It was a 55+ Community filled with 585 doublewides in a park.
Despite the negative connotation that has, it was a very nice community.

I just got tired of it all, the back and forth ( I flew ), maintaining two residences...
I always said if I had to choose between the two, I'd pick WI.
I'm 67 and was born and raised here.
My "bones" are here, this is home.

This is my first winter back home.
Of course I miss FM a little,
but it was time.

Where in Wisconsin do you live? I spent the first half of my life in Kenosha. Northern Wisconsin is really beautiful. It’s a great state. I have lived in Nevada for the past 28 years.

I lived in Florida most of my life, and indeed there are some nice little mobile home communities along the west coast. I would imagine it is become difficult to afford homeowner's insurance these days, considering all the storms. And mobile homes are not built to withstand things like tornadoes that now seem more frequent with hurricanes. I think you made a good decision.

And welcome to the forum!

My brother had a place in Florida and being a trucker, he drove to Florida each year. He'd wait till I had a snow storm that dumped 2-3 feet of snow on me. Then he'd send me pics of him sitting by the pool sipping juicy drinks.
But like wisenior, he sold it and stayed up in Mass.
I was stationed in Cuba, when I was in the Navy. The weather was great, but I really missed the seasons changing.

I live in Florida but my mother used to drive to Arizona every winter from Oregon. She finally sold her home in Arizona and stayed in Oregon. I will stay in Florida but sometimes wish I was back in Oregon.

Give a holler if you need some of that special winter gear. ;)

It is not unusual for people to return to their home state after having a second home here in Florida. The Fort Myers area got hit pretty badly with storms. I lived in Sarasota County for about 9 years and I am quite familiar with the Fort Myers/Captiva/Sanibel area. We spent quite a bit of time that way and very much enjoyed it.
As we are aging, having two residences can become to be a lot.

Have never had the thought to be a Snowbird. My DH was thinking when we were ten years younger, it would be "fun" and all I could think about was managing two homes. No way.
