I predict that in 20 years....

Some sort of voluntary microchipping is of course always a possibility, but involuntary chipping of babies? No way in the current foreseeable future
Wearing a seatbelt started out as a suggestion...then became law. No smoking indoors started out as a suggestion...then became law. Microchipping of newborn babies will happen eventually in my opinion.

So we'll respectfully agree to disagree.

Right now 1.31 billion people speak Chinese. China is already the world's largest economy, its economy is more than 20 percent larger than the US economy, according to the IMF. https://cepr.net
over 2 billion people speak English, and in fact with the movement of Eastern European populations in the last few years to so many English speaking countries, we can expect those figures to rise...

...but that said.. my mother used to say when we as kids would ask if there would be a third world war... '' beware the yellow race''.. dunno where she got that from..that was 55 years ago.. but she stuck by it..

With all the real estate they ALREADY own in the US, including the very large Smithfield pork processing, they don't have a great deal farther to go....
No. It's not as simple as that. Those are property investments, not ownership, they're business goup investments, not China's investments, the investors can't just cash out or take over and in most cases, they have to reinvest a certain percentage of their dividends.

I'd like to think that the US would have high speed trains going to/from all the major cities. But, considering I moved away from the DC area decades ago and when I moved back this winter it turns out that only now was the metro train line extension being completed to some of the Virginia suburbs (and still not completed to the big international airport), I guess getting a train system as sophisticated as Europe's is at least a hundred years away.
I had no idea you didn't already have that !
Our state has been trying to get the voters to agree to a high speed train going between 2 major cities and all I hear around here is what a "pinko commie idea them trains are; 'Muricans belong behind the wheel of their own cars!" (I hate it here. :( )

hmmmm average 500 people on the train versus 500 people polluting the roads with their cars from city to city... several times a day... hmmm. lemme think.. yep must be some kinda commie idea ....... come on over to Europe.. :sneaky:

Oh I'm sure you're right. In the next 20 years it'll be passed off as a safety issue, something that will keep people safe from harm... and it'll be sold to the public as tho' it were an Identity card that could never be stolen or defrauded..

I predict that in 20 years there will be a revolt of the "have nots". They have been promised so much for so many years by so many administrations but they are still marginalized and living in poverty.

The extremely wealthy have already built bunkers to hide away in the case of any type of disaster. One of the disasters could be an uprising against them.

On a positive note, I think that stem cells will be further used in many applications to overcome and cure various diseases.

The "have nots" are already revolting.
"Yeah, they stink on ice! Pull!"

... waiting to see how many people get that reference.

That one, scary and sad as it is, is my concern.
And if we continue to promote the criminal, and hobble the police it could just happen.
Yes, me too... many of the things being mentioned probably wouldn't be possible in just 20 short years... but this one is seriously scary because it could so easily happen in that amount of time... or half that amount of time.

I believe that in 20 years, many forms of cancer and other diseases will be manageable if not curable, and that the human lifespan will be further extended. This may not be a blessing unless we are also able to extend vitality.

In 20 years, artificial intelligence will be everywhere, and you will interact with it almost daily. Some will be autonomous, and largely indistinguishable from organic life. Many jobs will be supplanted or replaced by artificial intelligences, and life will be complex enough that many will be unable to negotiate it unassisted.

All bets will be off in the event of global war, more devastating pandemics, or the establishment of additional authoritarian regimes…
