I probably could be a minor league packrat

R.I.P. With Us In Spirit Only
The only thing that saves me is moving. I have moved an average of ever three years for all my adult life. Every time I move I dump "stuff" (RIP George Carlin). I have things in my garage now I have no earthy need for but they are too "good" to throw away. Am I alone in my situation? Are there others in the vastness of SF reach who also suffer with this?

Donating it to a thrift shop or Goodwill will create more space and help others.

I think we all have stuff we don't need and going through it is the hardest part. Once its gone, its forgotten.

This are things that thrift shops don't want. Some with parts missing, the kind of thing one thinks "I may need that one day", sadly that day usually never comes.

Having excess "stuff" is pretty easy to do. I keep a small pile of things I no longer need, or can't figure out why I bought them in the first place, and sell a couple of items every month on EBAY. I can usually make between 50 to 100 dollars a month doing this, and it generally pays for my vehicle/mower gas and tractor diesel fuel, etc.

The wife is a "clothes collector", and she often comes up with a big sack of clothes that she doesn't like....so the Salvation Army, or the local Animal Shelter gets those.

My situation is not hoarding. If you look at my place you will not see anything but spic and span and neatly organized in the garage a couple of shelves that have boxes of questionable items. Part of this, piece of that, the bolts I didn't need afterall, etc. ie. "Stuff"

Oh, that's probably okay - "stuff" is something everyone has, but yeah, moving is a great time to get rid of it - I've done that myself many times.

Last year I paid(rented) for a small 15 yard dumpster to be dropped in my driveway.
2 days later it was full of garage stuff and some household items.
3 days later and out of my bedroom the bike finally had a place to stay.

What broke me of hanging on to stuff was selling my house and moving into my boyfriend's small house. All that stuff that I had hung onto because I had room for it suddenly didn't seem as important. I sold over a thousand Santa Claus's, all my mom's antique furniture, all that oh-so-important stuff (like three punch bowl sets that I had never used). Now what I actually "own" can be put into a van. I felt so liberated and free. I just never realized what a burden "stuff" is.

I haven't moved in 14 years, and had some "stuff" thats been in boxes all that time. And a whole bunch of other stuff. Spring cleaning this year got 2 pickup loads to goodwill and sale money of about $1500. I now have a whole room for sewing and one less storage building. Hoarders Anonymous anyone?
