I probably cut my nose off to spite my face , what would you have done ?

I find that HomeSense prices are usually on the steep side. Good for you, Hols, for sticking to your principles. I would have done the same. Ridiculous that they couldn't supply tissue for delicate items. Why
sell them then?!
exactly Pinks.. especially when you consider they literally had hundreds of those types of delicate Christmas ornaments..

There was another example of poor customer service today. I picked up a dress watch in TKMaxx.. and because it was ''tied'' into the box by some tight plastic tie.. it was not possible for me to read the back of the watch to see if it was water resistant, so I asked a staff member.. She took the watch twisted it around read it and confirmed it was indeed water resistant.., so I took it to the desk, and asked the cashier to just double check , so she cut the tag off, and took it out of the box, and said ..''No, it's neither water resistant nor Stainless steel, there's nothing written on the back at all''.. I told her, that her colleague had just told me different, and she looked shocked.. , I tried to find the first assistant before I left the store, but she wasn't around.. but that's like your point DebraMae , nothing fit for purpose, even the customer service assistant today in TKMaxx.. and then again in HomeSense an hour later..
You have to wonder why she lied to you. There’s no profit in it for her. If you’d reported her, she might have lost her job. Some people are just plain nasty.

Saw this happened today. Definitely send an email to management and head office.

yes it makes no sense.. if she had difficulty reading it as I did she only had to say...

..lol. I actually told every single person I chatted to after I left Homesense.. about what had happened..:D
I agree with what you did @hollydolly . That would have got me upset, too. Usually, the managers are the nice ones (in my experience), but this was the other way around. Go figure.

We were told once, when I worked at a hospital, that the way we treat patients can have longterm and far reaching effects down the line and can cost them lots of money. When a customer is not happy, and tells their friends, and they tell their friends, guess what? People stop coming. Homesense is going to feel the effects. Also, if they have a review section, post your review.

exactly that Palides.. as it is I've written it here.. this is being read by many members, and many lurkers who will remember this the next time they go into HomeSense.. and or TKMaxx... .. and that's world wide.. not just here in England.. and then there's my friends who will get to know, and they will pass it on too.. and yes good idea about the store review.. I will absolutely do that... (y)

I have only ever been in TKMaxx once. I walked in, glanced around and walked straight back out again! It looked like a jumble sale.

I love you Hols and I would have done EXACTLY what you did. I have done it, in fact. It's very satisfying and it makes these people think. Someone has to assert themselves or they'll walk all over us. :giggle:

I think it was a good move to return everything, but if you like shopping in that store and frequently find things there that you want, then I wouldn't see the need to "cut off your nose to spite your face," and prolong the war beyond that day.

Probably the other store was right that it could just depend on the day and the particular manager that day how the store would respond.

Legally I suppose once you paid for an item, if you were the one handling it when it broke it would be your loss even if you were still inside the store. Why would that manager draw a line between the inside of their store and their own parking lot (were you parked on their lot?)? Not very logical on their part. I'd think they might have insurance for that kind of thing? Or maybe not, I don't know what type of insurance coverage stores have.

It might be that the manager has seen all the shopper-caused destruction that he can stomach and needs to get out of the business now if he can't keep a reasonable attitude.

A store that sells such delicate goods should have tissue to wrap the item.
That's definitely true and significant,
in addition to the poor policy, if there is one,
and the fact that the manager wouldn't bend the policy, if there is one like it,
in order to take under consideration the total circumstances, and that it was a regular repeat shopper, who was also buying expensive item(s)
Very short sighted of him, for such a tiny amount of actual cost to the store.

Actually I was thinking that.. but then I suspect if the policy is that if it gets damaged once you leave the store then they'll back it up.. however i might just do that..
The manager lost a 209 sale, because he wouldn't fork over a cheap ornament? Even if wouldn't replace the ornament, he should have, at least, been gracious about. Yup, write an email to the head office. You'll feel better.

The remote to my TV died.

I called the cable company and they wanted $30.00 for a new one. I said I'd like a free one as it was defective. They said no so I switched cable companies and they lost thousands of dollars in business from me.
The same thing happened to me, but I had them come out for a related problem and asked the technician for another remote so I got it free.

We have Homesense and Marshalls here, I don't know about the other stores. I am not a big shopper other than nurseries but will go to Homesense when I need something for the house, I find their prices reasonable. Bed Bath and Beyond sells pretty much the same items. I have only been to Marshalls once, I walked in and after a few minutes walked out. It was dirty, clothes on the floor. I will not go back to this store.
Holly, you should definitley email both those stores and complain. I am shocked that an assistant would say that to you in regards to the watch, if confronted she would probably have denied it.

I agree. return all items and contact the Home Office. It's worth a try and I have never been disappointed when pushed to contact their bosses. Not this particular store but numerous others.
