I think I am a little out of touch

you can still get a Chinese Buffet for $10...?... wow!

You can hardly buy a rice dish for that here....
I knew a place where they still had an all you can eat buffet at lunch hour for cheap which was very popular with many seniors and local work force but they have since shut down, the restaurant closed and torn down. They were an old place too. They were built before I was born. I guess their low prices put them out of business.

same here.. we lost all the places that had discount lunches ..including the Chinese all you could eat buffets... all gone...

In Spain the chinese restaurants there do a Menu del Dia for between £10-£15 euros.....which is approx £8 sterling -$10 USD..but it's the same items every day.. so you'd soon get tired of it... if you were to got there even a few times a week ..they only survive I believe because of the Huge tourist industry, if it was left to them relying on the Spanish for custom they would have gone out of business years ago

At the small restaurant where I have breakfast a couple times a month, I pay about $17 ($20 with tip) for 2 eggs, 2 slices of toast, ham, beans, and unlimited coffee. The food and service are excellent. :) That's a fairly typical price around here.
that's expenisve... in Weatherspoons that would cost half that and you get free coffee and tea refills....even in the cafe's where the food is better it would still be cheaper than £20..

When I lived in England in the 1990's, I would take the bus into Banbury on market day. ( The first time I waited on the wrong side of the raod and it flew past me, LOL.)

I would look at all the goods in the open market, then go to Littlewoods for their breakfast. I don't remember the price, but it wasn't much and I would get to have the full English breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausages, toast, baked beans and tomatoes. YUM!

yep but you can't compare Weatherspoons to anywhere else because it's a discount pub.
Yeah and many of their pubs( not all -it’s managers choice) joined the cheap plates promotion in March which has proved so successful it’s become permanent.I glean that because they’ve recently had new menu cards printed.
The question I ask is if ‘Spoons can do this why can’t other places?
I avoid the ‘Spoons in Cardiff that haven’t gone down the cheap plates route.
Only £1.99 for a pint of cider too.
Still annoying they charge extra for Black pudding though.
I dispute the food isn’t very good-I’ve never been in a ’Spoons that wasn’t busy at lunchtime.
It might be cheap but folk wouldn’t eat there if the food wasn’t up to Standard.
You know what you are getting there and there is a whole thread on another place I haunt devoted to them.
I love their cod and chips!

Yesterday I wanted a spare battery for my camera - $59.
I was feeling a little hungry so done something I rarely do, had something to eat at a no frills Asian restaurant.
Ordered a serve of fried rice without prawns and fish, with $10 in my hand, $18.
@Furryanimal, @hollydolly
I am sitting in a cafe - Full Breakfast with Sausage, Bacon, Fried Egg, Hash Brown, Tomato, Mushrooms, Baked Beans and Toast. $18.50. £9.57.
Coffee/Tea extra $4.50, £2.33

There’s a small BC chain that has an all-you-can-eat fish chips meal, which includes endless soda pops, for $20. I‘ve had it a couple of times. It’s not great F&C, not horrid either. Definitely not cod.

I too question the prices today. But the markets seem not to listen, and the prices only continue to go up. We need a restaurant "embargo" maybe that'll get their attention ? ........ yeah I know, it'll never happen.

Prices aside, I just wish we had more places around here that delivered. Now it's Italian or nothing.

I wonder if it might not be that many people today either do not know how to (or don't want to) prepare meals for themselves. I know of people who have huge, gourmet kitchens in their homes with virtually empty refrigerators. So many folks would rather eat out at least once a day and complain about the prices.

That must be an Ohio thing. We can have Pizza delivered and that's it. Dairy Queen doesn't seem to realize the fortune they could make bringing me chilli dogs and caramel sundaes at all hours of the night.

We used to have a really good Chinese restaurant that delivered, but as per the owner, he could not keep drivers ? [seems no one wants to work any longer] ?

I am aware of door-dash, etc .... but I do not wish to buy a $1000 phone just to have the app to contact them. And .... I'm told the wait time is a pain .... and the food is often cold.

Well I actually paid 14$ for deodorant the other day. I had developed an allergy to every brand I could think of…and a friend talked me into going into walgreens to shop. I was stunned…but desperate. The only good news is i am not allergic to it.
