I think you all get it wrong when it comes to making a Shepherd's Pie

Cottage pie is a regular on our menu. Sacrilege of sacrileges, I put garlic in it.

I put garlic in or on everything except ice cream.

I'll be making a Cottage pie soon. Lamb is not readily available at the grocery store. No matter, I haven't had much experience with Lamb, never cooked any.

I know the difference but they been calling Cottage Pie, Shepard's Pie here in the US since before I was born
so I give up because even when you explain it, and they get it, then no one else knows the difference so they keep
calling it that. I give up and will die happy that "I" know the difference and call it such. :ROFLMAO:

One other thing the US is very lacking in is the difference in Brown Gravy flavor over the
one from England called Bisto Beef Granules. I order it on line since having it over there.
American brown gravy can not compare. I have only found it in one store where I have lived.
It truly is the best brown gravy I ever tasted.

Ummm I never liked it... because when I was a kid, I thought shepherds were the main ingredient. Yeah, I had a wonky childhood. o_O And an uncle with a weird sense of humor.
My Dad had an uncle with a weird sense of humor too... when Dad was a wee one, Uncle Rex (who had dentures) used to pull the pliers he carried everywhere, out and with them he'd pull his own teeth out of his mouth, which freaked my Dad out to no end!

I think we've all got some one in the families that scare the kids with something... my uncle, my fathers elder brother had a glass eye, and he would take it out and chase us kids around the house with it.... and my grandfather had chopped his index off at some point in his life and it was just a stub.. and he'd call us over and ask if we wanted a penny, and instead he would stroke our palms with his stubby finger... ewwww....

Quick google search yielded , Amazon and Britsrus.com ( out of Oxo beek cubes at the moment). Also are British based stores that will ship to America. WalMart sells them online too.

I don't recall ever seeing this brand here. The big seller here in cubes is called Bouillon cubes made by various companies. . They are so salty and pungent to me.
I tried them in gravy and for stock to put in dressing and hated the flavor. Now you make me wonder how wrong the cubes are too here.
yes we have Bouilllion cubes here too. they're ok but not really good for a beef gravy. The Oxo stock cubes are crumbled into your meat dish, they are salty, but not in the same way as the former...

I make the Bisto gravy up and then add an Oxo cube or sometimes jst a half.... for the added salt flavour.. without previously adding salt to the meat dish...

the vast majority of home cooks use Oxo cubes at some point in their cooking...ltho' my won't admit it...

The great thing about them as well as one crumbled into mug of boing water make a fabulously tasty hot drink in winter...

if you can't find any... and want to try them let me know and I'll send you some..
