I want my Kmart back.

While we're talking about bathrooms-
Why do some women's room come with couches , chairs, and in the men's room we get a lousy urinal?
That's why men get out of public restrooms so quickly. Women have more stuff to do.

The K-Mart here nearest to me was a dingy, sort of not-too-clean place that never seemed to be very busy. I guess they did a decent business, though, because it was there for decades. There were only a couple of things I ever went in there for.

There were other ones across town that were nicer, but still the same sort of shoddy merchandise.

I don't miss K-Mart at all.

In our area, the Dollar General stores are growing. Almost every town of more than 6 or 8 thousand now has a DG store, and some have even popped up along the highways between towns. Many of the older DG's have even been expanded, as more and more rural residents visit these stores.
A few months ago I saw a feature segment (think it was on CBS Sunday Morning) about expanding DG stores. I prefer Family Dollar but I've noticed several have closed, and this is a large city.

Back in the mid 1990s my niece & nephew used to LOVE K-Mart. To them the toy aisles were Heaven!😃

Ah, the grand department stores of yore.

It was an "occasion" to take the bus downtown and shop and you dressed accordingly.

The glass-fronted elevators, the tea rooms, the personal service, the nattily-dressed "floor walker" who kept an eye on everything and made sure you were being "served".

For me, the real fun was riding the escalators up the 12 floors and back down.

Yes, Jujube, and for anyone who has watched the Prime series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, it was so enjoyable to watch the episodes where Midge gets a job selling cosmetics at B. Altman. That was once of the classiest stores, a real pleasure just to walk into (though I usually couldn't afford anything there.) Those fancier stores were almost like American palaces!

I miss it too....its been replaced in our little town with Rural King that literally sells everything under the sun, like a K-Mart, Walmart, Woolworths, Dollar Stores, and Big Lots combined and it's main attraction is all farming supplies.....lots of outdoor maintenance equipment and outdoor activity stuff like canoes, kayaks and camping gear also.....
BTW, I never shop there, lol....

The last KMart in the city closed last Dec,do miss it
I could always find my pants, turtlenecks, shorts at a reasonable price
I've been looking at Kohl's lately, bought 2 new turtlenecks couple weeks ago

Kresge's, Woolworth's .. where you could get an affordable meal at the lunch counter.
Since it’s Canada, the one I miss is Zellers. Target came into many locations. People couldn’t wait for it. It wasn’t long before it was gone. No loss, IMO.

never liked kmart much. prefer walmart. our kmart here finally closed a few months ago. it's been dying a slow death for 5 years or longer... they would not change or try something different so they slowly became obsolete... still playing those "attention kmart shoppers" infomercials from the 1980s on the speakers while you shop... so annoying....

I recall going there in November a few years ago to get a TV... they had NONE in stock with Christmas being a month away? how much money did this cost them in lost sales? 9 times out of 10 I would leave empty handed when going there because they did not have what I wanted.

I did work there about 4 months a few years ago. Good people that worked there. sad to see them lose their jobs.

One of the last K-Marts that was close to my son's house closed recently. He went for the final sales and made out like a bandit. Got great buys and I was happy he picked up a nice Hamilton Beach slow cooker as I use them a great deal. So, now I have 3 and can make several meals at once.

Yes, Zellers!

I was so disappointed in Target, as they were so different from the one's I shopped at in Australia.

I used to love the 5 and 10 and Grants. I need a pair of scissors because I lost my favorite and only pair besides manicure scissors and looked online for replacement but you can't touch a pair for under $12.00. This makes me miss those old affordable discount stores even more.

Our closest Kmart went belly up last year. Part of the problem was management I believe. Not all products had the prices marked, and if you were interested in something, you didn't know what it cost. Some items were overpriced for what you got.

Kmart was purchase by Sears several years ago and, like the Sears stores, was run into the ground. They're all closed, Kmart is no more.

Our Kmart just closed last December. It was built in the early 90s to replace a smaller Kmart right behind it.It was 100,000 sq.ft.-supposely the largest Kmart in the Country, but I find that hard to believe,as we are a small town of 5,000 and a county of 60,000. But that`s what they told us. We have very little shopping in this town, and now I have to drive across the county to Walmart. I shopped at Kmart A LOT! But the last few years,it was understocked and overpriced,so I only shopped there when I had to. We do have DG now,but no comparison.

KMart signed its "death warrant" 15 years ago, when it decided to buy Sears. KMart poured billions into trying to salvage Sears, and, as a result, Both companies began their slide downhill. It's doubtful that the remaining stores will be around 5 years from now. Next on the list of major retailers closing down is JC Penney. The Retail we've been used to for the past several decades is slowly dying as online sales continue to climb. In another decade, or so, most of the big shopping centers will be closed, and converted to warehouses or maybe even low income housing.
I found Penny's quality has gone downhill in recent years.
