I want to buy a farm

Be what you is not what you what you ain’t

Central NY
House hunting apps produce city, town, neighborhood congestion, land watch and similar apps cater to larger parcels of land, farms and ranches. Maybe a barn and a tractor where I can let the dogs out of the door and no pesky neighbors keeping track of our business. Maybe there will be a pond and enough acreage to lose my way.

They're hard to find these days.
We found the perfect one for the right price a few years ago.
The problem? The man who sold the land deeded his son an acre right in the middle. We met him and he seemed nice but it was kinda weird having him live very close to the house and he wasn't moving. It was the out of state sisters that were trying to sell.
We turned it down and when we tell the story we say it's about the land with man.

I was once interested in buying a larger piece of property. United Country Real Estate sometimes had some interesting possibilities.

Most heartland acres with timber and acreages are Lease only now & the LL partnerships and as it may be!

Its the same with Elders owning property, the LLP are trying to get a foot hold in the door of all their Mortgages / properties also.
Most likely believing the USA is behind your ownership thru B.S. government secured loans is also total B.S.

Everything You Need To Know About Government-Backed Mortgages And Loans
Of course this is total crap of the best type of crap.

What sort of rural living experience have you had?
I've noticed that often people leave the city or the burbs with rose coloured spectacles on, the reality check can be quite confronting for some.
Yup

In the six years we lived in the mountains, we saw quite a few folks try the off grid thing
They never made it thru the first winter
'All the pretty snow' became a bit harrowing for 'em

Reality checks can be somewhat unforgiving in the mountains

If you have trouble maintaining your yard around your home (or have a gardener doing it for you) farming is not for you. And, not for me either. I've hoed my yard for weeds three times this winter because we've gotten lots of rain and mild temps, too. Winter this year has been like four months of spring weather.

Farming, buy retail, sell wholesale and pay freight both ways, it's a great business model.
There's a reason why a former Kiwi farmer lives in Aussie.

Sounds nice except when you need to call an ambulance. Do I want to wait 20 minutes for an ambulance to arrive or 5 minutes?

If you can find a farm near a fire station, perhaps that would be ideal? How are you going to care for that acre of weeds? Goats? A riding mower?

Oh Ed! I'm so glad you said buy *A* farm because the first glace I had at the post title, I thought it said "buy *THE* farm." Had me worried there for a sec. I hope this dream comes true for you. As for me... well, I lived in the country (not farm per se, but next to a few of them) and I'm so glad I'm in a small town now. @Mr. Ed

Beats the heck out of laying on the couch watching TV til you die.....

As a self made suburban gardener with a somewhat too large garden, I agree. I don’t begrudge the labor as it is healthy, creative with a dose of problem solving but I am hiring arborists where lots of climbing or ladders are required now. But if you don’t love all the tending you won’t want to do it. I scarcely grow any food, I just like being surrounded by a slice of enhanced nature.

Had the same thought. Are we morbid?😉
