I was not quick enough

With my new car I finally got around to putting my street directory and country town directories in the car. Almost.
I placed the books on the roof whilst I sorted other stuff.
As I drove out my driveway I heard an unfamiliar thump. Not discerning a problem I continued driving.
As I go around the corner one of the books I left on the roof slides down my windscreen.
Getting out of the car I notice of the two books there is only one left.
That must have been the noise I heard, the book falling off onto the road.
So I walk back to where I heard the noise, no more than 50 metres, I spot a guy getting into his car somewhere near where the book would have fallen.
I looked all over for book, nowhere to be found. I surmised the bloke saw the book and took it as his own.
From the time the the second book slid down the windscreen to when I walked to the spot definitely no more than 45 seconds had passed.
Still not quick enough. :p

I once had an interview. The offices overlooked a small parking area. I took a briefcase of documents. My car was parked right by the building. Anyway, when I was done with the interview I went back to the car. I placed by briefcase on top of the car, and took off my jacket. I then drive off, leaving the briefcase on the roof. It fell off the roof, and for reasons I'll never understand, it hit the road and exploded. And I mean, it was LOUD. It echoed all around the buildings. I stopped the car to find my papers everywhere, a PDA..... and the people who had interviewed me looking down.

I didn't get that job. :D

that's why you should have a Sat Nav instead :D

I have a nav but I also use maps even now.
I never do..in fact I rarely even use the Sat -Nav, only if I'm somewhere completely new and searching for a particular place... but I have a Sat-Nav Brain... IOW I have an extremely keen sense of direction.. so the reason I will turn the sat nav on is if I'm travelling up or down the motorway for several hours, and I need Waze to tell me if there's any problems ahead...so I don't get stuck in a traffic jam, or behind a big accident or something

I use WAZE a lot. When I am going somewhere new I just let it guide the way. It has made my old age a lot easier.

I once looked in my side mirror and saw I had left the little door open when I got gas. Upon closer inspection I am grateful that little string thingie kept the cap from flying away because I hadn't screwed it back on either.

That happened to me too. I heard an odd clunking sound and thought something was coming loose under the car. Haha nope.

Unlike you, I have absolutely no sense of direction, so I use Google Maps religiously when I'm traveling to somewhere I've never visited. It is a godsend and even shows you if there are traffic snarls or accidents along your path. Thumbs up for Sat-Nav!

I find google maps isn't reliable enough when it comes to traffic jams or police stops etc.. which is why I use Waze...

One of my sisters is completely like you, she's got no sense of direction at all.. and we always joke that if we blindfolded her and spun her round in her own livingroom, she would be lost when we took the blindfold off.. :D

I once left the parking garage at DFW after a trip with my trunk open. I didn't even notice it until a guy started honking. He pulled up beside me and pointed. I was so embarrassed!
That is nothing, I drove down main street with a big jug of sun tea sitting on the trunk. When I arrived at the first red light, someone behind, came and let me know. I was a teenager at the time so I was always driving slow and careful (so I thought).

I am old school. Will remain old school for as long as possible.
I draw myself scribbled maps once I consult the directory. Got me by so far. :)
Bretrick: Looks like we're from the same old school. I still use my Gregorys Road Map. Now 12 years old. I can find my way around most suburbs until the roads have multiple freeways. I just mark the roads I need to follow and it usually gets me there. :)(y)

Yep. I think technology in the car is a distraction. Driving while looking at a screen can not be the safest method.

Funny, I was just wondering last week if anyone here made sun tea.
