I would buy a small, year round, cabin on a lake near where I live
That sounds lovely. A cabin in the mountains would have been my first choice too...except we don’t live near them and I don’t want to have to travel far to my dream escape placeLove the idea behind this thread topic, Kathleen!
I would love a small, cozy, stone cabin/cottage in the mountains somewhere out of the way.
Like this.
Did you get your dog yet Aneeda????Hmm, a hobby farm.![]()
I believe that's the key when it comes to a recreational or weekend getaway property, is not having to travel far or for long to get there. A quick 20-30 minute drive away, and you're there. That sounds lovely. I've mentioned to hubby many times over the years that if our current place becomes too much for us, we could downsize and build a nice little cabin for ourselves out of the way somewhere.
The one in the video would be a dream.
A wood-burning fireplace would be a must, with a scattering of woven wool area rugs to warm the place and make it feel homey. I would have a few select pieces such as a few wainscot chairs, a large oak refectory table that would serve as our eating and gathering place, and the cabin would be designed in a rustic fashion, with a heavy beamed ceiling in the main fireplace room, and of course, lots of woodwork throughout.
Being able to light a few candles and put on a warm cozy fire on a cold, wet, and miserable day would be heaven, just like in the video.
I can already smell the homemade pot of stew that's simmering on the stove, wafting through the cabin.
What a stress-reliever it would be.
*sigh* If I won a send lottery, could I come and visit? You could definitely come to my lake cabin and listen to the waves lap up onto the shore, listen to the birds sing...please bring your own stew!I believe that's the key when it comes to a recreational or weekend getaway property, is not having to travel far or for long to get there. It's beautiful for sure, but being able to take an idea that one likes and scale it down, now that's what I call living.Well first off, in that video it doesn't look like a small cabin in the woods. It looks more like one room in a mansion
I have a fireplace , so I can recreate the scene right here. Now my living room doesn't have that early American/English appearance , but still.
I've lived here with my fireplace for 20 years, used to enjoy it quite a-bit, but as has been said before age changes things. If someone else wants to cut & split the wood for me ? ....... yeah I'll light a fire.
You would be so welcome, Kathleen!*sigh* If I won a send lottery, could I come and visit? You could definitely come to my lake cabin and listen to the waves lap up onto the shore, listen to the birds sing...please bring your own stew!![]()

I am picking her up on the 15th when she turns 8 weeks old. It’s so hard to wait, but better for her. I am in the process of buying a lot of puppy stuff as we had given all our other dog stuff to the Humane Society. It was big dog stuff, anyway, and would not have suited a small dog.Did you get your dog yet Aneeda????
Convert your fireplace to gas, then with a flick of a switch, fire.Well first off, in that video it doesn't look like a small cabin in the woods. It looks more like one room in a mansion

I’m excited for you! And bah humbug on your husband! (and he will probably be the one the pup falls in love with!I am picking her up on the 15th when she turns 8 weeks old. Husband is not happy, but then he is never happy so I am, for once, doing what I want to do. I wish I could get two puppies but that would be pushing it.![]()
Well that must mean that you have everything in life, you lucky little devil! Can't think of one darned thing!
Really???? WowCan't think of one darned thing!
Oh, Ruth, I have always dreamed of owning a true, proper greenhouse!New landscaping on our home with a beautiful white fence all around just high enough so the deer don't get in and someone to maintain it all so I could enjoy just the fun stuff in my yard and also any major repairs that are needed inside and out. If I have some money left over I would like a green house.
