If you are thinking about visiting Scotland............

Aye, was thinking the same thing.

Oh shaw.... You both found out I was tooooo stupid to know that... My cover is blown... Gimme a break.

Actually .... what I meant was that I've never had the desire to visit Europe EXCEPT for Italy... sheesh...

My wife and I spent a week in Glasgow a few years ago, and but for the nearly daily rain and clouds, I loved visiting there. I'm dying to go back and bring my son and grandson along for a photo trip. Making this drive with a camera and lots of time to explore would be a real treat. Can't wait to do this.

Bob, I'm afraid that the West of Scotland is a lot wetter than the East, so next time maybe see Edinburgh. On average Glasgow gets around 45 inches of rain per year while Edinburgh gets 27, alhough the number of days on which it rains is roughly similar.

Further north where I live, the contrast is more marked. For example Oban gets 66 inches while my area, Aberdeen, gets 34.

I knew that what was you meant, but like to stir up trouble.

Aye, but the west is much prettier. We've got all those gorgeous islands over here as well.

Appreciate the advice and it's interesting you mention the contrast with Edinburgh. We spent one day there and while there was a brief shower during the visit, it was the only nice day of the entire week. I definitely want to go back to explore the area once I stop working and can devote the time necessary to see the country.

This is a good place to get advice on where to visit - Capt can do the east, I'll do the west. :D

BTW, I'll be in your area in Sept - Boston, Newport, RI, etc. I lived in Rockland as a child.

Make sure you have your gloves!

(I once met an American lady who told me, icily, "Only one sort of woman goes to Boston without gloves, Laurie." She endeared herself, and Boston, to me for life from that moment on! And you wonder where we get our misconceptions from!)

If that means I'm supposed to dress up, it ain't gonna happen! I have read, however, that many restaurants in Newport require you to dress up.

I lived in Massachusetts from ages 5 - 8. Only dressed up for my First Communion! :D

We tended to frequent the 'Red Parrot' and the 'Mudville Inn' (it opened on to a baseball ground at the back). I don't think they worried too much about how you dressed at either place.
