If you could have a drink with anyone from history, who would it be and why?

Cleopatra. Slender, long black hair with bangs. That's how she seemed to be portrayed on TV and movies. Did she really look like Elizabeth Taylor in the Hollywood movie?
I'm sure she didn't but would likely make a much more enjoyable woman to have a beer, or mead or whatever she wanted with.

My absolute pick would be my father, who passed away in 2000. I was 9 years into my current relationship and had just started my career with a company that I would stay with for 20 years. I would welcome his insight on life, retirement and the financial markets as I try to stay happy and maintain a living. He was a financial advisor and was a very wise and supportive father. I would let him know my relationship has now surpassed 30 years and that I was successful in my career.

As for someone who was well-known in history, it would be Princess Diana. I have so much respect for her caring, giving demeanor and I would love to hear her feelings about her two sons and the Royal Family as it stands today.

I have a place in my heart for explorers. I think I would like to sit in the sun on a headland overlooking Sydney Harbour and share a cup of port wine with Matthew Flinders and listen to his tales of circumnavigating Australia in the small boat, appropriately named the Tom Thumb. He mapped the coastline with great accuracy. He was accompanied by another man, a surgeon named George Bass, a boy named William Martin and his cat, Trim.

I would like to share the port bottle with Matthew, George and William long after the sun had set and we were being warmed by a campfire of burning eucalyptus wood. I would stroke and cuddle Trim while I took in the wonder of the experience.

My grandmother with whom I had an absolutely magical relationship.

But I don't think of Gran as an historical figure. For a historical figure, I'd like to have a chat with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes books which I have loved my whole life.

I guess that was why I had big crush on a young Cher in the 60's. Not because of Elizabeth Taylor, but because of Cleopatra, and the way history seemed to make her look. I always refereed to that look as the Cleopatra look. That was also the reason that I liked the Emily Prentiss character on Criminal Minds.
Also Xena, until I grew to like a short blonde haired Gabrielle better.
She was about 14. May be you want to meet Elizabeth Taylor

So many great picks so far. If I had my choice it would be Thomas Jefferson. I would take him to place that had any 24/7 cable news station playing and after letting him watch it for a few minutes I would simply start of by saying "So....what do you think ?"
It'd be a kick to take Alexander Hamilton to see the play, Hamilton, and ask him the same question.

Of course, everyone assumes that these people speak English and willing to talk to you. And that they are honest and open with very good memories and manners. Depends at what age they are, before or after they became famous.
They could be snobs in real life.
Why only one person? It is too hard to choose, if I try, everyone would say they are BUSY, no time.
Because I have heard that all my life and still do.
(If wild animals could talk, they would say they are busy.)

So Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?
So Caesar, how was the Forum in March?

Great question...Pierre La Font[who designed the city of[Washington,D.C.]and told George Washington to[Free the slaves]...Albert Enstein...Marilyn Monroe[not because she was beautiful]...Robert Kennedy[had he lived would've been greatest U.S. President]... Frederick Douglas...Harriet Tubman...M.L.K....Otis Williams... Smokey Robinson...Jackie Robinson...John Brown...Malcolm X...Berry Gordy...Branch Rickey...Ossie Davis...Denzel Washington....Ruby Dee...Willie Mays... Curtis Mayfield...Elanor Roosenvelt...Benjamin Banneker...Babe Ruth... Red Auerbach...Bill Russell.. Muhammed Ali... Sam Cooke...Stevie Wonder...Mary Wells...Michelle Obama.

Hope recent history is an acceptable answer.
Ronald Reagan. It would just be nice to see him again!
You wanta see Ronnie? I strongly suggest ordering "Death Valley Days" from Amazon; especially the 13th and the 14th season. Ronald Reagan hosted those 2 years and often played parts in the series. Fans of traditional westerns, like me, will love the series.

I don't have to order it. My husband watches all those old westerns on a daily basis. In addition to seeing Ronald Reagan, I get to see John Wayne, Steve McQueen, James Arness, Richard Boone, Chuck Conners, Audie Murphy, and a host of others. Maybe you could invite my husband over to watch TV with you and I could watch something else! :giggle:

who would it be? God or at least the being that is supposed to exist.

and why? To be able to offer proof positive one way or the other

You sound just like Doubting Thomas, the disciple who needed to see the wounds of the risen Christ and to place his hands in the nail holes before he could believe the testimonies of other disciples.

You also sound a lot like me.

I’d love to sit down for a drink with Dr Spock and talk about what he has thought of child rearing through the ages. Especially, I’d love to hear what he thought was the best, and the worst through the years.
