how long do you think you would survive?
What would bother you most?
What would you miss most?

For purposes of discussion, let's say you HAVE to serve time. No way out of it.

Please, no replies of "zero" or "I wouldn't do it". If you don't want to participate in this hypothetical discussion, please just move on.

Me? I think I could do 6 months, maybe one year.

But what would bother me much more than the confinement would be having to do what I'm told 24/7. I would HATE being told when to get up, when to bathe/shower, when to eat, what to eat, when/what to watch on TV, what to read, when to go to bed. Then there would also be cliques - or actually gangs. :eek:mg1:

I would miss:
Friends/family
My kitty
Food that I like
Eating in restaurants
TV/movies
Phone
Computer/internet
Sleeping late, taking naps, staying up late
Wearing clothes I want
Makeup/cosmetics
Walking and seeing trees, flowers

You pretty much summed it up for me although I wouldn't miss my kitty since I don't have one and I wouldn't miss the makeup either :)

How long would I survive?

Until someone fatally shived me. If that didn't happen I could probably ride out my time.

What would bother you the most?

Being asked to dance. That wouldn't end well.

What would I miss the most?

Freedom
Family
Space

There's no choice. I would have to do whatever time I was sentenced to.

I would miss exactly what you would miss, just swap kitty for doggie.

I would be terrified of gangs.

Q. how long do you think you would survive ?
A. I could do the time if left alone but......I never have been very good at taking crap from people (in this case other inmates) and I've always been pretty much a loner so if my survival depended on me being a 'joiner' in some prison gang or prisoner clique I probably wouldn't last long before I was done in.

Q. what would bother you most ?
A. the lack privacy.

Q. what would you miss the most ?
A. my privacy.

gmta....I was thinking about the HBO series "OZ" ........YIKES! Watched some on DVD a few yrs ago, Wow.
:eek:mg1:

Theme song is now stuck in my head. I doubt I would last a night at OZ. Sad confession. I did spend one night at Sheriff Joe's infamous tent city because of a DUI many moons ago. It was not a fun experience but it was a country club compared to what I have heard about real prisons. I did learn my lesson though. I won't drive after a drink now, even if it is only a beer with lunch or dinner.

I would survive as long as I had to...Pretty much miss the same. I'm claustrophobic so I would be terrified the whole time unless medicated. I would need a therapist if and when I got out, no doubt.

If the prison had a decent library I could survive forever, provided I could work in the kitchen.

What would I miss the most ? My DVD movie collection. All 400 of them.

What would bother me the most ? Having to live with super macho idiots.

Weeks, county, easy
Boring
Unless yer on the Harris County p-farm, Houston
Folks from Oreegone are considered Yankees there
The ‘you a yankee’ isn’t the best intro

Now, a year
One gets seasoned
Finds out what one is made of
Finds out what one really can stand
It’s quite a bit
The thing missed most?
Soft
The soft of a woman
That was a very long time ago
…like yesterday

Thanks for the memory, AP
All I’m gonna talk about it

I agree with Mark, I've watched Oz too a long time ago, and I'd much rather be in a woman's prison than a man's. I would do what I had to to survive, so I imagine I would last as long as my sentence, but something that was less than a year would be much more doable, where I could keep a more positive mental attitude.

I would miss my freedom most, my husband and pets. I'm a great lover of the outdoors, so being among the grass, trees, oceans would be greatly missed. I think most prisons have cable TV, but I guess there would be time limits and restrictions on what you could watch. I think that some prisons in certain states may be a lot rougher than others, hopefully I'd be in one that didn't have too much serious violence.

I would never survive it. I have been a "free spirit" since childhood. It would kill me in every spiritual and emotional way then I would end it one way or another. Not even animals
"live" in cages.

I have been to prisons to deliver prisoners from the court and also to question witnesses or suspects. I have seen and heard things that most people could never imagine. Prison is a very lonely place, but more importantly, it's a very dangerous place. Between gang violence, rapes, having feces or urine thrown on me and the chance of being stabbed for no apparent reason is enough for me to say, "NO, I wouldn't survive in prison." I can see myself either killing someone or being killed myself.

I've been (if the stockade counts! ), three times.

I survived (and I don't know about your culture but in ours military detention is about the hardest time here is!)

IMO a sentence of more than a year would seem too daunting, like climbing a mountain and not wearing shoes.

About 15 yrs ago I worked at a commercial real estate company, and they had an in-house atty. Nice enough guy although I didn't have much contact with him. I left, moved on, and then in 2010 saw a story on the news where he was going to trial for theft, forgery, (stole money from a client) and money laundering. I was shocked. He was convicted and sentenced to 8 yrs.....served a little over 5 yrs. When he got out I was talking to a former co-worker and we were saying how the 5 yrs seemed to pass quickly. BUT, I doubt he felt that way.

I would ride it out for however long it took. I would be the type to cultivate friendships by listening and helping however I could to those who were troubled. I would also see it as an opportunity to take a class, or whatever else was offered to pass the time.

I would miss family, friends, kitty, and my personal computer.

I think I could last as long as possible. I would miss my family/friends,not being able to go utside to take my daily walks.I don't have any pets, but I do love dogs
If I could work in the prison library,it would make my stay more bearable since I love to read, maybe take some classes Sue

I believe I would survive very well. I have always had a knack for being chameleon like in interactions with humans (so I would not expect to get shived. :) )
I would miss not in order:
Silence, solitude, proper nutrition, regular bathing/hygiene, the Sun on my face and wind in my hair.
